WiFi not recognised... BroadCom - ASUS PCE-AC88 - How can I get it running?

Hi there... I have no acess of any kind to a LAN ... so I have to use WiFi... but my wifi is not detected when I boot into the base iso-runit... I have tried booting into the i3 iso-runit but no luck there either. The current Arch Iso has the wlan0 able to be seen and activated and connect with no issues, same with Anarchy script install iso... but Atrix seems to be lacking the drivers. It is not just you as a test I booted Manjaro LiveIso, ArcoLinux and EndevourOS... all could not see the wifi.

So, any ideas on what I can do for this? I assume I need to install some drivers? I have had problems installing stuff on a live iso as the directories are often different form a hardware install.

have you installed linux-firmware?  maybe you need install drivers too - see: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Broadcom_wireless

Try a weekly DE ISO (e.g. LXDE), as those offer convenient helpers for connecting to wireless networks and contain the latest kernel device drivers. If all goes well, you can do a clean base install from there in a terminal.

That sounds like a good idea.. I'll try that tomorrow, though I luke the idea of sable isos : )

can you install on a live iso? Usually the package manager fails. Is there a web searchable atrix repo I can download a tar for and then install from a usb or something so the live iso has internet access?

I'm still a little confused about how the repo works. Like if I am running "runit" Artix, is there a seperate repo for that, which installs the serveries for run it over systemd. Stuff like that, more reading I guess. I assume I can just pacman -U /root/Download/packagename.tar.gz from https://www.archlinux.org/packages/core/any/linux-firmware/ ?

Welcome to Artix.
A good place for you to start is the Artix wiki here: https://wiki.artixlinux.org/

If the weekly iso as suggested by @nous doesn't work, follow the instructions at the link provided by @alium‍. It will explain how you can determine what chipset your broadcom wireless uses and thereby learn what driver needs to be installed for it to function.

Still no luck on this...

I tried both the weekly for base install and the LXDE... neither could connect to the wifi and ip link list would return no device..

I downloaded from arch the linux-firmware (https://www.archlinux.org/packages/core/any/linux-firmware/) by clicking on the mirror link on the menu on the right.... I used pacman -U ./filename and it installed, or seemed to.. but I couldn't see any diffidence and as this is a live iso a reboot would reset eveything.

I also downloaded both B4 and B4.classic
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/b43-firmware/
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/b43-firmware-classic/

but the pacman -U ./filename command would not work on them....  any idea how I can install those ones?

Any other ideas?

There is simply no way around reading the arch wiki on AUR, pacman and makepkg.

Thanks.. but, of course, I have already read those and can not seem to find out how that can help me. Maybe I did not understand it, the information is pretty dense.

makepkg -si in a directory that is archived from the the b4files atrs. did not do anything.. said "cannot stripbinary required for object file stripping".. I'm going to try and download base-devel and install that and try again, but again, this is a love iso and I am not sure these are even installing correctly anyway.

I found this thread on the endevour forum with help of duck but I couldn't apply it to my system

I give you one hint, the only one, you are trying to install a source tar with pacman -U, which will not work naturally.

makepkg -si create from PKGBUILD and source archlinux package (packagename-packageversion-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst) , which you can install with pacman -U

archlinux/artixlinux is designed for advanced linux users. using clickable distribution before help now  not much  :-X , when you must use commands in terminal.  don't give up!

if you really need old b43 driver (are you sure about that?), you must first learn, how you can this package create

maybe you can tell us some about your hardware ;-)

I have been using Arch for a few years, but as I said the live iso the wireless just works.. so I had no problems. Once installed xorg and herbstluftwm everything is pretty seamless when you have a working pacman and yay...

I've been using VoidLinux on my laptop for about a 6 months and NixOS for a few weeks before that..  and I really liked void, but I missed the Aur and the Arch support, so I went looking for ways to make Arch use runit.. that is how I found you guys.

not a 100%... but it is a good place to start lol

Actually I think it may be brcmfmac as the listing of my pci returned "broadcom limited device 43c3 (rev 04)" and ducking that returned people talking about brcmfac but there is nothing in the arch pakage search thing for it.. so I think it is just b4? I get no errors doing modprobe -r brcmfac  and modprobe brcmfac or w/e... I also use sv restart NetWorkManager as well.

Interesting... ok... thanks a lot for the help from everyone in this thread. I guess as arch gets more mainstream you'll have more people like me turning up : )... oh well.

I have to go pick up the kids and do Dad stuff, but I will look at this tomorrow when I am pretending to work in my office!
