New installation

I'm not getting ANYWHERE with packages, ALWAYS end up with conflicts and only a single 'Close' button which aborts the entire attempt. I tried to install just a single package, VLC:

- the 'Install' button is checked
- click 'Apply' button
- 'Cho0ose OPTIONAL dependencies',
check none, click 'CHOOSE' (don't want anything that's OPTIONAL
- Authenticate with pwd for "u0" (see my previous post)
- Chose provider for librav 2 options, BOTH are rav1e
click 'Choose"
- Choose a provider, again 2 identical options
default selected libinstpatch, click 'Choose'
- Choose a provider
default selected libebml, click 'Choose'
- Transaction summary total 2.1 gb
*2.1 gbs of DEPENDANCIES with NO optionals*

- Click 'Apply'
- Authentication again demanded with u0's password

"Conflicting Dependencies"
util-linux-libs and libutil-linux are in conflict
only 1 button to resolve: 'Close'

How do I NOT install problematic dependancies?

pacman have no apply and close button.
use

pacman -Syu

archlinux split libutil-linux to util-linux and util-linux-libs, ergo libutil-linux must be replace. pacman can do it very well, if you use pacman in console, "and not some half-finished graphics program" . Learn to work with the command line, saving you time and nerves <- my advice

P.S. if you update periodically , you wouldn't have such problems (you can still have a problem with new / missing keys from arch / artixlinux).

thanks, it's a new install and a new user, I know nothing about packman or arch, just installed me everything i could find that doesn't come with systemd

Not the best way to do an install. I would recommend that you familiarize yourself with the workings of Artix, Arch & pacman first, and then familiarize yourself with any gui package manager you may use. Arch wiki and Artix wiki are good places to start. Man pages are also very helpful...."man pacman" in terminal.
