Since there are no open sources for NVIDIA drivers in their ISO Images

I think you may have to use to console briefly.

I ran into this recently installing Artix on a machine with a Nvidia GTX 770.
The Installed Nvidia drivers of course did not work and the display manager sddm dumped me out to the console.

But I could start a gui with

startx /usr/bin/startplasma_x11

as I already knew the command to start plasma. I assume this session of X was using the vesa driver as the resolution  was very low.
(You would have to to replace the command after 'startx' with whatever starts the DE / window manger you have installed.)

Once in X I could install the legacy 470 drivers from the AUR and after a reboot X worked.

So you only need one command in the console but you need to know what it is before you arrive there.

It's very strange why artix developers didn't include open source video card drivers in the iso image (xf86-video-nouveau and mesa). I have a Nvidia Gtx650 and I also faced this difficulty. I simply installed the system from the base image...

Trying to install in a graphical environment failed for me. The system simply hung. However, the installation process using base-iso worked fine. The system is stable.

Okay, why does that fail to start in a graphical environment?

And how did you install it with a base-iso?

I would like to be able to convince myself of this, but my attempts, unfortunately, still fail.

I didn't explain very well before.
Your card "NVIDIA GeForce GT 740" is not supported by the nvidia proprietary drivers on the iso.
There is the open source Nouveau driver on the iso but my experience was that failed to work for some reason (sddm?)

To get a GUI:
Login
artix
artix

then run this command

Code: [Select]

startx /usr/bin/startxfce4

Hopefully the GUI will start and you can install artix. But you may struggle a little as the resolution will only be 1024x768 probably.

If you get Artix installed you may have to repeat the above to get a GUI again.
Once you have done that update the system and install some packages needed to build the legacy nvidia drivers

sudo pacman -Syu base-devel 

Next run

sudo pacman -S nvidia-470xx-dkms nvidia-470xx-utils

Reboot and hopefully that will work

That is almost exactly what I did to get Artix installed on the machine with the gtx 770 except I used the command to start plasma not xfce like you have.
(I actually got the drivers from the AUR but that's an extra complication you probably don't need at the moment)

From memory so I hope I've not made typo's

Yes, I believe that too and I don't think it's a good thing that the Nvidia proprietary drivers for older graphics cards are not supported in the ISO images.

Yes, it also worked with the command you wrote to me:

startx /usr/bin/startxfce4

I was also able to install Artix and also had this low and poor resolution of 1024x768.

So I have to honestly say that Artix Linux is too complicated and not user-friendly for me, which is why I decided against using Artix Linux and that's why I'm sticking with Manjaro Linux, which I get along well with, even if there are a few There are problems that perhaps cannot be solved even if I spend more time on them.

I don't really like Artix Linux either, even though some people find it good and promote it.

You can't set up Artix Linux completely individually like Manjaro Linux and I actually have more problems with that than with Manjaro Linux.

Therefore, I decided against using Artix Linux and continued using Manjaro Linux.

I updated the system, which only worked partially.

I tried installing the packages I need and it didn't work for me either.

As a Linux beginner, this really puts me off and that's why I'm refraining from further testing with Artix Linux.

Artix Linux is nowhere near at the level of Manjaro Linux and I think a lot of development work is still necessary to get there.

Okay, I can't handle Artix Linux anyway.

I think it's a good idea to completely abandon graphical iso images. They will only introduce unnecessary chaos and cause more problems than good.
