The killer feature of the fanless boxes is they'll never have fans clogged by dust and malfunctioning, but I don't think this is worth the exorbitant premium and a CPU used for compiling will suffer more from heat than a fanned one. As for the HP Elitedesk 705 G4 that was mentioned above, while not a bad deal, it heats over 10 °C more than its Lenovo Thinkcentre M715q counterpart and the fan noise is almost insufferable. They both can be found for less than $100, but I would recommend the superior M715q implementation if you can get your hands on. This thing does WWZ in low-medium 1280x1024 at 50 fps in Vulkan and barely whispers.

I went ahead and reinstalled Artix, this time using a base install like I should've and now things work fine. Thanks for everybody's help with this. I likely messed things up at some point on my own and it only started catching up with me now as I had no idea what I was doing when I first installed Artix (it was my first linux distro). I'm not sure whether or not to mark this as solved, so for now I'll leave it. Again, thank you all for your time!

train a replacement.

I feel sad at the news of your not feeling well.

64gb and 8T is kinda a beast.

@cat herders of linux had a few of these machines she got in a lot and needed to sell, but I have not seen them for a bit.

I am looking to get 64GB of ram and about 8 TB of storage.  I really want to buy this once, and never have to worry about it again.  I haven't been feeling well and I want it to be idiot proof by the NYLXS people if something happens to me, and for it to be installed and useful for 15 years.

Fixable it great.  Indestructible is what I prefer.
IME nothing does not break, so i like fixable.
I didn't mean to enter someone elses previous flame war.
Nor did I. I was interested in your points.
I  was just looking for hardware to install for the Artix compiling that is not a full tower that sucks up 300 watts.
Me too.
I am not getting a mac... I am bias and bigoted against Macs.
I apologize for being unclear. I was referring to the EliteDesk Ryzen mini PC's that take less than 100w.
nous had recommended them as building beasts, and they are cheap.

Here is a random example from amazon https://www.amazon.com/s?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=EliteDesk+705+G5
