I've had this issue since I installed Artix. But, it was so trivial compared to my graphics issues that I didn't feel like bothering to post to the forum about it.
Essentially, certain application action binds seem to not work because of an issue with KIO.
For example, if I try to open https://tenor.com/view/cowboy-bebop-hacker-ed-computer-wild-flailing-gif-18132421 by directly clicking on it in the messaging client it was sent from, I get this: https://bin.snopyta.org/?6d826bac5eca13da#CgLgHfZ4XQwT1NMdp8u6ubmKL9e4kXzWDtC3NMcDtGgJ
The URL in the omnibox looks like this: file:///home/$USER$/.cache/kioexec/krun/13315_0/cowboy-bebop-hacker-ed-computer-wild-flailing-gif-18132421
I also cannot do other linking related things that worked automatically in my previous KDE Neon install like opening .osr files with osu!.
So, any idea why KIO would fail like this?
Sorry, i not understand your problem clearly :/
Where you open https://tenor.com/view/cowboy-bebop-hacker-ed-computer-wild-flailing-gif-18132421?
In dolphin, in browser? What have exactly to do kio with this link?
2. kio's services contains more packages, not only 'kio' package and every package have a few optional depends.
Have you REALLY installed ALL necessary packages and their optionally dependencies. Are you sure?
Yeah that's also why put off asking. It's a really weird issue lol I had trouble explaining it
I if I click the link in the application seperate from my browser (Element, IRC, email, what have you), KIO can't properly route it to my default browser, so I get that weird "file:///home/$USER$/.cache/kioexec/krun/13315_0/cowboy-bebop-hacker-ed-computer-wild-flailing-gif-18132421" in the omnibox instead of "https://tenor.com/view/cowboy-bebop-hacker-ed-computer-wild-flailing-gif-18132421" and the browser just shows that mess of text I posted in privatebin, which seems to represent the website's code.
However, if I copy and paste the link into the omnibox, it loads just fine.
No, I'm not sure I've installed everything- but I don't know what I'm missing. I have all the dependencies for kio and kio-extras installed. Regardless, I'd expect something as basic as link routing to be ready to go out of the box. Otherwise, there would bound to be someone else bringing up the issue on the forums.
have you set properly associated this type with corresponding program?
https://userbase.kde.org/System_Settings/File_Associations/en
https://userbase.kde.org/System_Settings#Applications
kioclient5 exec https://tenor.com/view/cowboy-bebop-hacker-ed-computer-wild-flailing-gif-18132421
what do this for you?
for me open this link in browser. which is set and expected
It "sort-of" opens the link in a browser, just like what I tried to describe in the OP :P
Here's a browser screenshot: https://files.catbox.moe/8kq996.png
that happens if you run this command above? if yes, some is in your KDE set wrong
I'm just guessing: you don't accidentally use the settings in your profile from previous installations (those other installed distributions)?
it is new clear user profile?
Yes
No, it is not. Where might I find the culprit then, you think? I'd rather not create a new clear user just because of this.
hard to say when you can't see the content of your profile
try check ./local/applications/ or ./config/mimeapps.list
