I have occasional hard crashes that happen randomly. It happens about once or twice per day. I can't move my mouse or press anything on the keyboard, so I have to force restart with the power button. I thought it was related to the video driver but I have used Artix on both AMD and Nvidia machines and the crashes appear on both. I have the same problem on both KDE and bspwm.
Also, when it happens, audio lags for 2-3 seconds and then it stops. Perhaps an ALSA driver bug? Kernel related?
I would be happy to post outputs/logs, except I don't know which ones exactly.
Any help would be most welcome, as this is the only problem I have with Artix.

Thank you. My init is OpenRC. Here are my outputs:

I noticed the same problem on my computer today. After waking up the computer. Dmesg shows some problems with the AMD driver. In my opinion, the kernel 5.9.10. does it. The 5.9.12 kernel should be released in the coming days, maybe it will help.
in my case seems fixed now by linux-zen 5.9.11.zen2-1
Hey, is it ok now? I'm expecting a kernel update. For me, it happens much more often, about once every 15 mins. At first, I felt stupid for not installing amd-gpu but that didn't help. And what is the linux-zen kernel? Is it the regular linux kernel that Artix OpenRC provides? Because if there's no solution to this, I might as well install the linux-lts kernel tomorrow.
Unfortunately it's not fixed. Just happened again even after the kernel update. I'm also thinking of installing linux-lts.
uname -srm
Linux 5.9.10-artix1-1 x86_64
kernel 5.9.12 is in our testing. Linux-zen is provide by artixlinux too. Do upgrade your kernel! (you not wrote which version you have ;-))
yes, 5.9.10 is not ok for me, install linux-zen-5.9.11 or linux-5.9.12 from testing
i use
5.9.12-zen1-1-zen
Sorry alium, I missed that you used the zen kernel! I'm on linux-zen-5.9.12 as well now. Hopefully no more crashes as you said :)
Hey. I tried the zen kernel and it kept happening. So I reinstalled with the lts kernel and its still happening. I guess I missed an important step during the installation both times. Its kernel panic as it prints out.
Here's my dmesg output. I'm not so good at understanding this but here are the errors (what i could see in red):

And the dmesg is already in the previous reply :)
please put here full dmesg output
The forum doesn't allow me to paste the full output (>40000 chars). But now it seems fixed. It doesn't crash anymore.
Hello. Its starting to happen again. Can you please help me.
Here's a drive link to the dmesg output:

Yep just had a crash as well. Here's mine:

guys, dmesg contains no error.
so we need log from /var/log/messages.log (here should be previous dmesgs inclusive crash). please share it in via paste.artixlinux.org. maybe we will found a problem inside this file
There's no file called messages.log. Did you mean rc.log? If so,
https://paste.artixlinux.org/view/f7991afc (https://paste.artixlinux.org/view/f7991afc)
:D :D no, i went not rc.log . what about /var/log/error.log? do you not use syslog-ng?
I didn't know about it till now :D . Anyway I'm assuming it'll start writing messages in the /var/log directory as I just got it using pacman. I don't have an error.log either. I enabled the service now. It should start printing the errors hopefully :)
Hey, it just crashed and here's the log:
https://paste.artixlinux.org/view/dfcdf736 (https://paste.artixlinux.org/view/dfcdf736)
again only part of dmesg ::)
no error inside your log. kernel do not crash. are you playing a game or watching a video the moment it falls? I see only some record of using drm, but no error or failure
Yeah I guess I am. Sometimes during pacman but thats just simultaneously running with some video. So how do I fix it? Btw when it happens during pacman, Its prints something like "kernel panic" so I thought it was kernel related.
Yeah, without logs with exactly errors I can only guess.. mesa/drm/kernel... But it's upstream bug. Nothing what we can in artix fix :'( you can report it in upstream, if you will save log with exactly errors

Just got this, complete system freeze on my desktop PC (NVIDIA), had to hard reset. Was browsing with Vivaldi when it happened.
strajder, why you still use 5.9.10 ? upgrade your kernel or downgrade or use lts-version, but not use 5.9.10 :D :D
5.9.12 is now in extra, update your computer. If that not help, please try use older nvidia driver https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/nvidia-440xx-dkms/
Whoops, forgot to reboot. Will report if this freeze keeps happening with the new kernel.
Hey
@alium , Apparently my hard disk is dying. That was my brother's old laptop and he told me it used to crash in Windows as well. But there must've been a kernel problem as well at the time op posted this. Kind of a coincidence I guess. Now I need to change the HDD or maybe buy a new laptop as its 9 years old. Thanks for your support.
Hello. The hard disk is dying but that's not why it was crashing. I'm using the BCM4313 wireless card and the kernel module for this card has some bugs. People on archlinux would solve this by installing the
broadcom-wl
package. But its not working on artix and I'm suspecting openrc. That's why youo couldn't find anything in dmesg.
When I installed broadcom-wl, the other broadcom modules were blacklisted and when I rebooted, my wifi card couldn't be detected. How do I fix this on Artix?
Thanks
all about broadcom drivers (which driver is useable witch which models: https://wiki.debian.org/wl and https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Broadcom_wireless
you need the right combination of right driver and right firmware...it's like puzzle, because broadcom is sh*t.
