I noticed that in the Gnome authentication windows the avatar icon that I chose with gnome-control-center does not appear (for example with pamac or in the one to unlock the user in control center, etc.). I have installed artix manually and use the openrc init system. Later, out of curiosity, I installed the Artix Gnome iso image on virt-manager and I noticed that there is no such problem. I would like to know if I need to install or activate any particular service. Here is the output of rc-update. Thanks for your attention, greetings.

particular service? we have no gnome-related operc service (so far as i am know) . see pacman -Ss openrc.
whether it is necessary to install something, it's hard to say, because we don't know what you have installed ;-)
maybe some other issue or you set differently your Gnome in virt-manager. I would rather look for a difference in the settings
I would not think this is init-related either. Perhaps you are simply missing some GNOME package or need to configure something.
I don't know, I think the gnome-control-center package should be enough, however the avatar icon appears in the gdm, but not in the authentication windows. I also tried to install the gnome metapackage but to no avail, only a symbolic icon appears, not the avatar image I chose.
p.s. the test with virt-manager I did it by installing from the iso artix-gnome-openrc-20200704-x86_64.iso where I only verified that the selection of the user's avatar image works.
Put a png avatar in your $HOME named as .face - it should do the trick.
It doesn't work, it seems to me that the gnome user icon is defined in the / var / lib / AccountsService directory, I checked and everything is ok. As I said before the problem concerns only the authentication windows, in the gdm and in the gnome-control-center the icon appears correctly.
I found the solution: simply add the user to the wheel group.
