I'm thinking about migrating from XFCE to some minimalist wm.

Don't believe polls. Try for yourself, see what you think is best.

It is a long task but I recommend you to use each of them from 1 week to one mont each so you can have an idea of them all
There is no best one, it all depends on you and your use

It all depends on how you use it.
As I mainly do graphics, I prefer Dolphin which I add to XFE.

I am using an old laptop.
I have KDE Plasma and it is OK. (I like dolphin and baloo file search and the start menu!)
I wonder why in the poll there is no KDE Plasma and Gnome as they are the two most popular DEs.
Including them will give a better view of the topic.

Thanks.

Window manager and desktop environment are two separate things.

Sorry for being that illiterate!
I have seen some distros offering during installation to chose from KDE, XFCE,... and openbox which is on the list.
I don't understand this. So, this means you can have for example KDE Plasma "desktop environment" on your choice of "window manager"?

It's possible to integrate a WM (for example openbox and xmonad) in a DE like KDE.
