Despite running -Syu regularly there has been nothing to update since yesterday evening, is it just quiet at the moment or is there some kind of issue with the repos, or is it something I am doing wrong? I tried updating /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist from the pacnew, then tried a few different ones at the top, still nothing though.
depends on your repos i guess
chrome is herecura i think
-Syyu can bring up some more updates if needed but if you update at a sane interval like every ~week, the db files will change enough for them all to get refreshed anyway
comment 1st mirror line, then check
When somebody really hooked on updates.
It can happen that you don't have any update for some times, no problem there
Wrong, it will just overload mirrors bandwidth. Syy is only needed when changing mirrors so that you have the latest available db for this mirror.
I've had a few (not many) updates since, so things are working OK. It was an unusual pause, sometimes that indicates a problem somewhere. Updating very frequently makes it easier to revert if needed because you only get a few packages at a time, it can take ages to sort through 100's, but I usually just update my main machine & installation like that to catch any issues (not that there are many in recent years) and update others at longer intervals.
