Post by: mrbrklyn on 11 December 2022, 02:47:40
Does anyone have a recommendation for a VPN for Artix to use for torrents et al?

A lot of useful information about what you should look for in a provider can be found on https://thatoneprivacysite.xyz/ (https://thatoneprivacysite.xyz/) The most secure protocol is OpenVPN and every provider that supports is can be used with Artix and every other Linux distro https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/OpenVPN (https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/OpenVPN)
You can run openvpn as a system service or per connection via NetworkManager for example.
[edit] I'm a fan of AirVPN with great performance and options to set up specific ports for torrents for example

You can use all protocols in Linux  (OpenVPN, IPsec/IKEv2, Wireguard) as far as i know.
I prefer Wireguard for my VPN.. Why Wireguard (https://mullvad.net/en/help/why-wireguard/)
There are some Providers i would use:
IVPN (https://www.ivpn.net/knowledgebase/general/do-you-allow-p2p-or-bittorrent-or-torrents-downloading/) Port forwarding only in Pro not Standard.
ProtonVPN (https://protonvpn.com/support/bittorrent-vpn/)
Mullvad (https://mullvad.net)

I disabled for security my ipv6 too: IPv6 Leak (https://protonvpn.com/support/prevent-ipv6-vpn-leaks/)

I hope i could help you a little bit ;)

Not exactly a VPN, but using Tor I think is a better option if you're aiming for privacy.

I use Proton VPN from Flathub. Very user friendly and has some nice features like Secure Core. I have also heard good things about Mullvad VPN and would use it if I were to switch.
