Would you mind telling me what ‘unable to take locks’ means? Having installed a fresh system using the latest ISO I encountered the issue with compiling database in S6. After entering the routine commands such as ‘s6-service add default <service>” and then ‘s6-db-reload’ I would get the following result: S6-rc: fatal: unable to take locks: no such file or directory.
That had never happened before the s6 got updated January 14th.

From my experience, this usually means that /run/s6-rc isn't available or something like that. Why this would happen to you, I have no idea.
For the sake of testing, I just tried installing from the previous weekly ISO (Artix-plasma 26.12.22) when S6 hadn’t been updated to 2.11.2.0-1, and there were no problems with database compilation. So I’ve had ‘unable to take locks’ message since after S6 got updated.
Well there was a major library bump (skalibs) in between that time. I'm not sure if possibly it would require a reboot (?).
A reboot won’t take effect either. I even did a clean install using base ISO and all was the same. Could it be a CPU issue, how do you think? I’m using quiet an old laptop, it’s 8 years old Lenovo G50-70.
The CPU doesn't matter at all.
Well, I don’t know what could cause the error, It may be roughness or something else. I will be waiting till the next release of S6.

So after some investigation in IRC, it turns out that this was actually an s6-rc bug. I could trigger it as well, but I just never noticed it. It was fixed in 0.5.4.1 which is in the repos now.
