Title: Disc drive keeps opening
Post by: kenny_w on 27 April 2023, 17:49:07
Hey guys, I just recently started having this happen and I'm wondering what I can do to stop it. The CD/DVD drive just opens by itself randomly like there's a ghost pressing the button. I googled some stuff but it looked to be systemd-dependent. How can I stop my disc drive from opening whenever it wants? I'd like to keep it enabled, but I'm thinking about just unhooking it since no one uses Disc's anymore.

Hello,
Maybe an internal fault in your DVD player?
As I no longer use this reader, I disconnected it and left it in place.
The day I need it, I reconnect it and take the opportunity to vacuum the inside of the case.

This is not much help but mine used to do that. Then it stopped.
I decided that the poltergeist must have found peace and left.
Mine still gets use. Last time only a couple of days ago.

The drive can be ejected either by a software command or from the button being pressed. You might find something in the logs? This thread on the Arch forums suggested disabling the eject button helped someone with a similar issue:
