Hi there.
Recently joined by installing Artix from Manjaro. I used the Plasma install ISO onto my Dell Laptop and want to install brave-bin as my browser of choice. However I get the following error when running via terminal
[32638:32638:0917/124329.913781:ERROR:browser_main_loop.cc(275)] GLib-GObject: cannot register existing type 'GtkWidget'

I installed the GNOME desktop and it runs fine (eccept I've not worked out wifi under GNOME) but is there a way to get it to work under the KDE Plasma desktop?
Many thanks and looking forward to your reply :-)
hello
i'm running artix with kde plasma, and after updating brave from AUR (to version 1:1.58.131-1), i now have the same issue.
so i uninstalled it, and installed ungoogled-chromium with pacman.
unfortunately, it doesn't work better, and gives the same error:
[19041:19041:0928/114216.601564:ERROR:browser_main_loop.cc(275)] GLib-GObject: cannot register existing type 'GtkWidget'
[19041:19041:0928/114216.601581:ERROR:browser_main_loop.cc(275)] GLib-GObject: g_type_add_interface_static: assertion 'G_TYPE_IS_INSTANTIATABLE (instance_type)' failed

any idea or solution ?
thanks
I also have this issue.
Search for eg. GtkWidget in this forum ;)

Just came to complain about the same thing. When I search up GTKWidget, it shows nothing. I'm about to switch back to Arch Linux and take my chances with systemd lol.
I'm guessing it might be this thread?

Saw the thread but I'm not having the issue so didn't read it in full.
yes, so try chromium --disable-features=AllowQt
artist
Thanks
For chromium,, you can write this option (--disable-features=AllowQt) in ~/.config/chome-flags.conf
But chromium being an attrocious software (cant even accept to installl an extension without being logged in your damn google account >:( ), i quickly removed it and reinstalled brave <3 from AUR.
Almost same thing, but you have to write the flag in ~/.config/brave-flags.conf
That's whty there is ungoogled-chromium :)

sorry, i said chromium, but i was using ungoogled-chromium, installed with pacman :o
(i haven't installed/used chromium in a long time.. and spent some time to discover that.. and the extension allowing to manually install extensions from the web store. worst user experience ever on a browser :( )
Ungoogled does what it says on the tin! So the chrome webstore is blocked unless you add that functionality with extensions.
I tend to use ungoogled-chromium as my 'vanilla' browser for the rare occasion I really want to see whatever page is refusing to display in Firedragon + multiple privacy extensions.
