Title: [SOLVED] Something is Missing in Artix
Post by: hawksquat on 31 March 2024, 01:43:42
I am on a Dell Vostro 15 3530 laptop.

When I installed Artix , display properties only show one available resolution  (1920x1080).
When I installed Arch however, display properties show the full range of resolutions.

GPU is Intel Raptor Lake-P [UHD Graphics].

What is missing in the Artix install?
Can I really not use Artix on my computer?

I'm sure I'm missing something, but not xf86-video-intel, that's in my package list.
Thanks for the reply though.

Miracle of miracles....I updated my system today (pacman -Syu)and something in the update fixed my problem.
After six months of trying everything I could, someone out there  updated their software and saved me.
I can finally go back to using Artix...my favorite distro! Bless you software updaters.
And thank you to everyone who tried to help me here too.
How do I mark this solved?

Just to put a final cap on this subject.......
Today's update (4-5-2024) put me back to square one....only one resolution listed.
Checking the pacman log I see "xf86-video-intel" was updated.
And sure enough the update that set things right (4-2-2024) also included "xf86-video-intel".
So I deleted it, rebooted, and all is right again.
We'll see where this goes I guess.

Read this manual (https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Intel_graphics#Installation). You should delete xf86-video-intel.
Quote
1.The modesetting driver included in the xorg-server package is the recommended choice for Gen 4 hardware and later. It uses the DRI driver for acceleration via glamor.
2.The xf86-video-intel package provides the legacy intel DDX driver from Gen 2 to Gen 9 hardware. This package is generally not recommended, see note below.

it helps but honestly, this is not the kind of thing worth learning.  5 years from now it will be ancient history.  These are the kind of things that you hope just works.
