Title: KDE 6 taking way too much resources
Post by: forged24 on 12 April 2024, 21:41:27
I've been using Artix for years with no problem on an old Macbook Pro. Runit, KDE.

Since the KDE6 Wayland upgrade, I notice my fan running way more often, louder, and hotter, even though my computing habits have not changed. I know this is part and parcel for new upgrades on old hardware, but is there anything I can look into to calm my computer down?

Thanks in advance

It's quiet now, but when the fan is ramping up, the only thing I could notice were Librewolf and Kwin-wayland running at the top. Nothing exceptional besides those two. Browser gonna browser but I feel like it's Kwin/Wayland. I'll try to check it again next time it starts acting up.

FWIW - that was also true of KDE1-5

It is just a horse.  And such a nice rich attack surface for hackers...

@forged24 i have a feeling it's certainly wayland in a relationship with that older hardware.

Thanks guys. I suspected so but just wanted to make sure. Guess it's time to grow up and figure out how to use dwm.
