i'm getting really bad performance on artix, even at the absolute lowest possible settings but on windows 10 i kinda do ok on medium settings. Not amazing tbs but sorta playable. On artix i get these hard stutters where the screen doesnt update for a few seconds and i'm left to wonder whats going on and then the machine catches up and i'm ok again. This doesn't happen in windows even on the slightly higher settings. I wonder if anyone here plays that game and might have some suggestions.
Chənge some settings
as stated in op i have them as low as they can go and it doesnt improve the performance
The joke here is, how would I know?
What emulator are you using? what version of wine? or eggroll?
Give more info.
I use steam and whatever version of proton they are using. I guess I could try which versions they have as options.
I ordered this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/395701637513?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=pZ415dLgS32&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=g7kgqoznq06&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
And this: https://a.co/d/bHU4d3C
I think amd hope that will sort me out. I hope amd open source drivers will be compatible with these gpus!!???!!!!???
Well you might if you had personal experience with this circumstance. No worries a solution may be at hand that involves other settings 😜😸🤣🙀
do you think you might be better off with that 705?
My first port of call when I have problems with a game is protondb.
https://www.protondb.com/app/306130
Several posts are suggesting using the experimental version of Proton. You could also try GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom (https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom)
i was gonna suggest https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/proton-ge-custom-bin
I already own the 800 g4 so it made more sense to me to buy the Rx 560 and 150 watt power supply for the six core machine
But I did already several days ago order a 705 with the 2400ge. It's coming from Stockton
California .. why it's taken hom two days to pack it up and ship it off is beyond me. It's on the way in any case. Maybe by Wed or Thursday next week I'll see.?
So this is interesting to me anyway. I bought the 150 watt power adapter for the 800 machine and 32 gb memory for the 705 2400 ge machine but as i am waiting for the 560 card and the 705 2400 ge machine to arrive today i put the 32 gb new mem from big store that fdelivers the next day into the 800 machine and it no longer has those hard studders of graphics like i was getting with the used memory installed but also i am using the new 150 watt power supply. so of those two items i wonder which is the likely culprit of the hard graphic studders in linux steam proton gaming. guess i swap back one item at a time and see which causes the issue to return. There is always a bit of a hit to performance while riunning linux steam using proton to game vs windows that is more noticable on lower end graphics but the new power supply and the new memory has corrected the biggest issue, graphics studders that don't screen to update for a second or two. amazing.
and so after try the used memory chips one at a time in linux steam proton gaming i find the one chip that was shipped with my machine when iu bought it is faulty and the used one i bought off ebay is likely ok. it still has some graphical issue but might just be due to operating one 8 gb stick in single channel and it's not nearly as bad as the one i got with the machine from pcs for people.
i will def have to buy another new set of memory for the 800 machine. the 32 gb is for the 705 as it will be using the system memory with the 2400ge apu. the 800 machine will have the rx 560 card with it's own 4gb mem so maybe it wont be so bad while i wait until next month for another mem kit.
woo! the amd vga card option showed in the bios! then it booted into artix!

all that amd 560 goodness in the inxi showing up!
the on down side is i couldnt have 2 2280 m.2 nvmes. i think i can use a 2230 in the right slot but it def does fit with the graphics card and the 2280
oh and so i copied my setting folder from windows after installing adrenaline for the game and it get 97-100 fps on proton 9. very nice.
the 705 machine hasnt arrived. it got delayed in maryland and now that a storm is coming i might not see that for two more days.
There are m.2 extender cables, that let you ribbon cable to the drive.
Something like this.
https://www.amazon.com/NFHK-Vertical-Adapter-Female-Extension/dp/B097DDG8RL/
Not sure what I'd do with that. I don't want the nvme drive in their loose when I can just buy a 2230 nvme drive. There's a spot for it to screw down on a post.
The 705 machine still hasn't arrived. It's looking to be at least 2 days late and with the snow coming it'll likely be more. Just nuts.
The package was supposed to be delivered yesterday. Not sure what their holdup is
And as predicted snow delay on top of USPS delays
I thought you already had two 2280 m.2 nvmes. You can tape down the drive inside. It does not really need the screw. many new machines have a plastic pin for the drive hole to sit on. the pin has a slight wider ring to give a bit of friction moving on and off.
It seems you already have a plan.
tell me how that 705 works. Have a friend that needs a cheap machine. nous already said its a beast, so just waiting to pull trigger.
in truth i have 3 2280 nvmes and a hdd 2.5 inch and two enclosures with usb 3.2 adapters
Also having played on the desktop 2400g processor previously I can tell you for my use case it was pretty good. When I upgraded to a desktop Rx 580 when they first came out I got more fps and a larger viewing distance in ESO. Even this 560 is a nice little bump up but I expect the 2400ge to do very well.
Mr Amal from the post office delivered my package today. he had to knock on the door and as usual i answered the door not knowing whos there because i'm considerate like that. Thank you Mr Amal!
So the device 705 works. it came with no cpu cooler fan, the hdd caddy was unscrewed and floating around with it were two screws, i assume for mounting it. the hdd ribbon cable wasbn't plugedinto the mb and the screw holding it to the hdd caddy are nowhere to be found. But it does work. I borrowed the cooler fan from the 800 just to be sure the device works. it came with one 4gb stick of ram. But ir does work. I have the 32 gb ram to put in it so there's that.
Was it supposed to not have a cooling fan?
They kept making me an offer to sell me one without a cooling fan for 50$ and I told them no repeatedly. They sent me that one anyway. I kept asking for the one I ordered with the cooling fan and the HDD caddy and the Bluetooth Wi-Fi card for 65$. They say the will refund my money. We will see if that happens.
the machine works. i dont know why they dont just offer to send me the missing part. Using the 4 gb single stick of ram it got 65- ish fps in eso my intel machine with rx 560 gets about 95-100 fps.
Well so they did
The machine works but I can't use it without the missing fan. One is on order. I hope they don't flake out on me.
so you got the 705 for 12.50? Good deal! plus ram. will it take 64GB?
I got 32 gb kit - the max it will take - for like 42$ wirh tax. Though the whole machine sits unused waiting the part . Maybe by the end of next week i get to use it? i have bought a 20 ft hdmi cable so that i can have a triple monitor setup for it. I have an old 19 inch 1280x1024 monitor in portrait mode for documents and an old 17 inch the same resolution in landscape mode on a dual monitor desktop arm thingy and the third display out goes to mt 43 inch 1080p tv so i can watch youtube videos and the like on librewolf. The cats like the 12 hrs of birds and i like my sermons without inappropriate commercials for things i would never buy such as i often get on the roku.
Well it turns out the 705 is dead. I had it tuned off but plugged in and I see that the power button flashes red 5 times and white 2 times but I have no idea what that means
https://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06151807.pdf
p116
The red LED blinks to represent the major error category (long blinks). The white LED blinks to represent the
minor error category (short blinks). For example, ‘3.5’ indicates 3 long red blinks and 5 short white blinks to
communicate the processor is not detected.
5.2 The embedded controller cannot find valid firmware.
p120 might help fixing it.
https://support.hp.com/us-en/help/hp-pc-hardware-diagnostics
this is a usb tool that is supposed to help.
edit.
This is the list of things to do for 5.2
1 Remove any recently inserted Hardware.
2 Reset CMOS.
3 Update BIOS while affected components are removed.
4 Test known good component.
5 Replace component or Main-Board as needed.
And a dead cmos/rtc battery can, apparently, do this.
i did update the firmware with the help of windows update. it rebooted a number of time and i assumed when it booted back into windows that all was good and shut it off gave the fan back to the 800 g4 and was waiting for it before restarting the machine. i dont know what i can do when there's no firmware found and i cant boot to bios. i did go to their help pages. and i didnt find everything you did. thank you for thast. much appreciated!
i swapped out the cmos battery from my 800 machine and got the same error
so, cmos battery you think, or fan removal triggered it?
I think I don't know. It was working when I shut it off and now it doesn't boot. I have no idea how to update the bios on a system that doesn't boot. I mean i plug it in and it gives me an error even before i can boot it just with it plugged in. Whats to do with that? clearing cmos via the button on the mb has accomplished nothing.
The manual says you make a usb with HP software and it will boot to that
which usb? it doesnt boot now hows it going to boot to a usb drive when it doesnt boot at all?https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp105501-106000/sp105879.exe i copied that to a usb and it does nothing but the incessant blinking
You need to run that exe on a machine, probably in wine or windows, and it will make format a usb drive so the machine can boot from it and diagnose the issue... hopefully.
Have you removed any hardware you added? like drives...
Trying to get any windows names to boot from my USB enclosures. Got win 10 on one and 11 on another
Then maybe I can't try that usb
I finished resetting my windows 10 nvme. What did it install????? Windows 11? Nope my bad windows 10
The instructions say to power it on with the USB in it but it won't power on it sits there and beeps once I plug it in. If it powered on I wouldn't need the stupid fix that doesn't work . Hours more time wasted with this nonsense. Ugh! I hate windows. I think windows did this to my machine
if it is still flashing 5.2 then it cannot find a good bios. the hp exe is supposed to write that to the usb to enable booting.
Is it still flashing 5.2?
Yes ofc. It does nothing else
yes it does write something but its only for more recent machines. then you have to copy the bioses from the other years of older machines to that same usb and i did that and i put in the root folder of that usb and still it does nothing. i assume my machine is from 2018-2019 so i copied those over.
The download i see is
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp156501-157000/sp156855.exe
you could try this
https://support.hp.com/us-en/help/computer/power-boot-issues
I ran that exe and during the install it says this diaagnostics uefi is accessed by pressing f2 at the system boot menu. i cant get to the system boot menu becaus eall it does is sit there in flash 5.2. it doesnt boot for me to press an f2
All of this has been a complete waste of time to try and salvage this motherboard. all it does is beep and flash 5.2 and nothing else matters to it but its incessant flashing 5.2
Colour me confused.
Since saying all it does is blink and give the code 5.2 you have posted a screenshot. Was that a different machine ?
Sounds sketchy.
Unfortunately that sounds possible if by firmware you / HP mean the bios.
Have you seen this:
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Boot-and-Lockup/Failed-BIOS-update-of-EliteDesk-705-G2/td-p/8941846 (https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Boot-and-Lockup/Failed-BIOS-update-of-EliteDesk-705-G2/td-p/8941846)
and the page linked from there:
https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/ish_3932413-2337994-16
It suggests several things to try and gives details on making a BIOS recovery USB as opposed to doing a regular BIOS update near the end, I expect you should start at the top and work down through the options.
You could also try removing unneeded components and swapping others if you can, e.g. try different RAM if you have another compatible stick.
Going directly from an old to new BIOS can cause the update to fail, it says.
Yes I have an 800 g4 with 8500t and an Rx 560 and then I bought the 705 g4 2400ge pro machine that did work and rebooted into windows even after Windows updated the BIOS with Windows update that mysteriously started flashing the next day while plugged in and powered off. all these things say to run this exe and it installs files onto the usb that you are supposed to put in the usb drive but none of them work because they all require you to prees this key or that key at strtup vbut i have no startup. as soon as i plug in the machine it starts beeping and flashing red 5 times and white 2 times and none of the recovery tool usbs work unless your machine turns on and mine does not it only beeps and does the flashing thing 5.2
It says you power on while pressing keys, on the page I linked, not after it starts. You have to click the + to reveal the procedure when you get to section 3, Manually Recover The BIOS.
i had missed the post i did look at it since. i'll remake the usb again with the bioses from 2018-2019 since that seems to be the era of my machine...
this looks like the link to the 2018-2019 era computers
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp105501-106000/sp105879.exe
and this is the link to the 4 in one tool
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp153501-154000/sp153574.exe
as i understand it the 4 in one tool makes the usb ready and then i still need the older bios from the other link copied over into the root of the usb drive.
All I got is 5.2 beeps and flashes. I followed the links and read the pages and pressed the keys. Nothing changed. The only time something changed was the time I removed the processor then I got a beep about the processor not being present. Put it back in and went back to the 5.2 beeps and flashes.
Doesn't sound promising. The final suggestion on that page is to contact HP customer support, but it's unknown whether an older machine would still be supported. Possibly because that page is for laptops there's some different procedure. It sounds like at least some HP machines are designed to boot without a BIOS, so long as you have a "rescue" version on a USB or drive partition, and you can initiate the rescue mode by some key press combo at startup. There might be different keys to press on a desktop that are not listed on that page. But there are more possibilities, that rescue mode must be dependent on some embedded firmware somewhere, in order for it to be able to read the drive in the first place, I don't know where it would be located, but say it was all built in to the CMOS / BIOS chip, and that chip or section of the circuit has electrically failed, then even the fall back method won't work. After all, I think you said earlier you didn't upgrade the BIOS and the upgrade failed, this happened a while later.
5.2 is no valid firmware detected right?
So it is booting enough to check the firmware on the disk, right?
It should be able to see the firmware on the usb, even if you think it is not booting.
It does nothing but beep and flash 5.2. no keyboard press or start button does anything. nothing works.
TY all for your help. another MB is 25$ and as i cancelled the fan, i'll reorder it at a later date. might be a while b4 i get back to it. I am being forced out of my apartment due to a failed inspection and so i may or may not be homeless in a couple of months. we'll see how it goes. im on a voucher and the issue is moving my cats. if my cats cant move with me then i'll be homeless b4 i move into a place without them.
That's sad to hear, but you were talking about wanting to move a while back - perhaps this could be turned to an opportunity! Some places might welcome cats:

Hope it works out for you somehow.
i can take my section 8 housing voucher to any 5 star rental property in the city and rent a one bedroom aparrtment BUT i would be abandoning my cats and thats not happening.
