Laptop does not wake correctly from hibernation.

After working great for months, by old Dell E6410 (suite 66 xfce)  has been giving me trouble with waking up properly from hibernation.

It will wake to the  gui logon screen and after credentials are entered I just get a blank screen. CTRL-ALT-F1 will land me in the terminal so it isn't frozen or anything.  I can reboot from there and everything boots normally. Sleep also wakes up normally.

I am a bit of a born-again noob as I dabbled in linux 10+ years ago but am only now relearning to be more than an end-user after finally getting tired of windows 10-11 privacy issues.

You use lightdm?

From tty1, instead of reboot, restart lightdm (or sddm) to see what happens.

Code: [Select]
$sudo  66-start -t default -r lightdm

Re: Laptop does not wake correctly from hibernation.

If this is a result of an update, it can only be caused by a kernel or a kernel module (video driver...) update.

There is a page for general hibernate/suspend troubleshooting: https://01.org/node/3721

Other than that, check dmesg and system logs (files in /var/log) for a possible cause.

Edit: Just running grep on your dmesg file gives:
Code: [Select]
$ grep -i fail dmesg42022.txt
[    0.319185] pci 0000:03:00.0: BAR 15: failed to assign [mem size 0x04000000 pref]
[    0.319188] pci 0000:03:00.0: BAR 16: failed to assign [mem size 0x04000000]
[    0.319196] pci 0000:03:00.0: BAR 16: failed to assign [mem size 0x04000000]
[    0.319200] pci 0000:03:00.0: BAR 15: failed to assign [mem size 0x04000000 pref]
[    7.111571] intel ips 0000:00:1f.6: failed to get i915 symbols, graphics turbo disabled until i915 loads
[   10.392684] b43: probe of bcma0:1 failed with error -524

To get last few lines from a lightdm log (as root):
Code: [Select]
66-inservice -o logfile lightdm

Code: [Select]
$sudo  66-start -t default -r lightdm
The -t default is only needed if someone has created a tree other than the one containing the service and marked it as "current". So (as root):
Code: [Select]
66-start -r lightdm
should suffice with the default tree setup.

From tty1 66-start -r lightdm did allow me to get to the desktop.

I then grabbed the lightdm log as requested

You have Artix accountservice pkg installed? If not, try to install it and enable/start the service.

Thank you guys for your help and patience with this. The accountsservice package was in fact not installed.

I am now having a little trouble with the enabling syntax. I looked up 66-enable at obarun and I tried a few different ways but I am encountering tree/unable to resolve source path errors. These are just a sample of my ignorant attempts.

Code: [Select]
artixlinux:[arron]:~$ sudo 66-enable -t accountsservice
66-enable: fatal: unable to find tree: /var/lib/66/system/accountsservice: No such file or directory
artixlinux:[arron]:~$ sudo 66-enable /var/lib/accountsservice
66-enable: fatal: unable to resolve source path of: /var/lib/accountsservice
artixlinux:[arron]:~$ sudo 66-enable /var/lib/AccountsService
66-enable: fatal: unable to resolve source path of: /var/lib/AccountsService

pacman -Qi accountsservice now shows it is installed.

Re: Laptop does not wake correctly from hibernation.

First of all, there is no init service for the accountsservice, it is started through D-Bus.

Second, even if it was a service managed by init, you don't need the -t parameter, as I said above.

Third, even if -t parameter was needed, its syntax is
Code: [Select]
-t treename
so the command would be
Code: [Select]
66-enable -t treename someservice

Artix has an updated wiki article on 66, check it out: https://wiki.artixlinux.org/Main/Suite66#Enabling_a_service

Note: The linked article does include the -t option, but in most cases it is not needed. It is only needed when you are dealing with the service not in the tree marked as "current". By default, the tree named "default" is marked as "current", and most non-essential services added by users fit into that tree.
