headset microphone appears as unplugged on kde audio stuff

i tried joining vc with a fren on discord and my mic wasnt working because of this. i put the output thing as a duplex and a microphone option appears but it doesnt detect my actual microphone. im using an adapter for the headset but it didnt work alone either or on my other bad headphones. this is also not an a laptop, its a regular desktop.

I have the same issue, you have to install the "alsa-tools" package from community repo (of arch linux) and then run "hdajackretask" (you want to run this as root if u dont have a pam authentication thing that prompts a password if any regular app wants root access)

from there
on the right side enable "Advanced override" , now find the one that says Microphone and go to Jack detection.
there set it to "Not present" and on the bottom left side hit "install boot override"

This should work (hitting apply now wont work properly if u dont absolutely kill all of the audio server stuff (like pulseaudio/wireplumber/pipewire-media-session)

Then reboot and go to "pavucontrol" or any other volume control and set your mic to Headphone Microphone (it should no longer show you connected or unconnected

Btw this is all because of the upstream linux kernel making changes to audio detection stuff and its not present on really old kernels and to make matters worse this patch was backported to most kernels

feel free to contact me on discord (THE_COUNTrox#0759) for further assistance as i do not check the forum that often
