Dwm

Hi, can anyone please help me with Dwm window manager if they are familiar?

Ive got it working ok and now know my way around it from a beginner perspective.

What i cant figure out is how to autostart apps upon startx in the tag area and if this is even possible ?. Ive googled and done a lot of searching but not sure if my search terms are correct enough.

I am using ~/.xinitrc to startx, is it possible to input something into .xinitrc to have say 3 programs autostart in the tag areas and not just in the 1st tag alltogether so each program has its own tag and is maximised?

I seriously recommend awesome wm over dwm, the community around it and the fact that it's using Lua and not C, makes it way more friendly. Others will recommend I3 and Xmonad, they all have their quirks.

https://github.com/Elv13/tyrannical   might be the awesome wm config you're looking for ...

That being said, I'm not against dwm, just that I never tamed it ...

If you want to use dwm patches are your everything.
To start some programs with dwm you may use "spawn cmd" patch or make something like this (as i did because on the same step i didn't know about these patches)
To make window appear on specific tag edit rules[] variable in config.h

When you want get familiar with something, you want to see all options and later decide what of them you want to use.
DWM is opposite. It is minimalistic and ascetic, for those who already know what they want so they add patches to extend base options. If you start with DWM you would not see different layouts and approaches to organize working space.

Ascetic philosopher isolated themselves from the world in caves to meditate about their life experience and ideas they learned from the world and to challenge themselves. But if someone starts with cave and stays in cave, he may end up as caveman  :) , from mentioned above only challenge is guaranteed.
