Just updated and it seems ok for me

Could not connect to X session manager: None of the authentication protocols specified are supported

That seems bad. Maybe try launching from a terminal with DISPLAY=:0 steam ? (source)

You could also try the native runtime, but it's in multilib not lib32

yah i saw the xsession error but that has nothing to do with the network error i would think.  I did try your suggestion and got the same error to both xsession and the network error persists

Code: [Select]

Could not connect to X session manager: None of the authentication protocols specified are supported
CAppInfoCacheReadFromDiskThread took 15 milliseconds to initialize
PulseAudio connect failed (used only for Mic Volume Control) with error: Access denied
PulseAudio context init failed
Failed to init SteamVR because it isn't installed

when running from the comand line steam throws out a bunch of output, most of which seems irrelevant.  My problem is case in point.  The gui reports network error but none of the output from command line does.  try running yours from the command line and you'll see what i mean.  It's the most useless output from a command line i have ever seen.

Same here since the latest bugdate #9592

Managed to log back in using steam -vgui to launch the older UI, still leaving this open in case I need to report something else

confirm that steam -vgui works as intended.

The only other thing I can think of is that X uses network protocols, it's possible the network connection the new GUI is waiting on is actually your local X server - not the WAN. I'm on wayland right now (running steam via xwayland), but I can try it in a X session if additional debugging is needed. It's impossible to say for sure with that output... personally I think this is something steam needs to work out on their end, especially since it appears to impact multiple distributions.

Edit: the package you want from multilib is steam-native-runtime not the regular steam, it will be installed alongside the regular steam package. I'm not hopeful it would make a difference at this point though.
