rEFInd ignores resolution setting, goes to max supported.

Not sure why but as the title states I can't set the resolution refind uses.

I've tried setting invalid options and it does give me the appropriate error so it's seeing the option as set, but when I set resolution to 1920 1080 I always get 3840x2160@30hz (which is the max resolution of my display).  I've also tried the single value (I think it was 9) which corresponds to 1920x1080 but same results.  I've tried putting 1920 1080 in quotes (just to see) and tried putting it as 1920x1080 but refind doesn't want/like that.

I've checked in my bios and CSM is disabled, I also just turned off the "fast boot" option but no change to this behavior.

I feel like it must be a bios thing and not a refind thing because with a previous build/motherboard it took the desired resolution no problem.

Anyone experience similar behavior / have any ideas of what to try?

It's a minor thing I know but I can't help but tinker and get more and more frustrated when the expected result doesn't occur.

For someone to notice a problem in refind.conf that you might have missed they'd need to be able to see it.

Short in the dark. Do you use a theme ? If so is the resolution set there as well ?

Fair point.  Yes I use a theme called rEFInd-minimal which I investigated but it's got no config entries related to resolution, and also it's background.png file happens to be 1920x1080.  This is also the same theme I used for my previous pc setup with which it worked as desired.

Nothing looks wrong to me.

I like to get rid of of the cruft (not that it should matter, but more below). As in rename the default file refind.conf.help and just have the settings I've changed from the default in refind.conf. The uncommented example menu entries began to bother me even though they never showed on the actual menu.

I like rEFInd a lot. I've sung it's praises quite often on here.
But a while back it started playing up. It must have been after an update I guess but I'm not totally sure ?
To be more exact it ceased showing new rootfs's I'd created in it's menu on the next boot. It ceased showing entries for bootable iso's in it's menu as well.
I'm fairly certain I had changed nothing in the config file.
The weird thing was that if I booted from a rEFInd iso everything that should show up on the menu did so.
I tried reinstalling. I read the .conf file (and this was the point I went with the cruft free version) and tried various things even though it seemed a bit futile as it had worked before with just my basic settings.
It was one of the things I kept meaning to get to the bottom of (try older versions, delete the EFI partition and recreate etc.) but never got round to.
Then quite recently I upgraded my nvme from gen3 to gen4.
I cloned everything across but purposely did not clone the EFI partition. I created a new one, installed rEFInd and copied refind.conf and the themes .conf into the refind installation (for good measure I also removed the old NVRAM rEFInd entry with efibootmgr).

Best I could work out at the time it should not have made a difference but it did. rEFInd from the EFI now shows all the entries I'd expect it to.
As the files on the EFI should in theory be exactly the same my best guess is that is was actually some issue with the rEFInd entry on the UEFI and associated variables ?

But if it's bothering you enough it's worth a try!!

In addition to the fact that the desired resolution should be spelled out in theme.conf should also be duplicated in refind.conf.
