i3 graphical glitches upon startup

When I start i3 with the command 'startx /use/bin/i3' I get the following graphical glitches, any idea as to what might be going on?

I get image not found.

Try and compile i3 from the latest git master. I would also compile xorg-server from the latest git master as well.
