Installation failed...

I am trying to install artix-lxqt-20171015-x86_64.iso on VBOX, but installation fails with the message message in the attachment.

I previously tried the lxqt-rolling iso, same thing...

Anything i can do to go on?

BTW, the message in Greek says

Installation failed
Error Boost.Python in job "machineid"
ἕν οἶδα, ὅτι οὐδέν οἶδα
I know one thing; that I know nothing

Do you want to try using the base iso?

Τρίτωσε το κακό

1st  did you actually check if the installation is functional, even though the message says it failed?

2nd  It would be most interesting if with the same iso on the same machine you did the installation in English, would it produce the same error.

3rd  I've never done this myself, but would one be able to chroot (artools-chroot) from live to a virtual installation?  I can't think why you could not.

I suspect @nous would come to assistance with this when he is awake, if he ever goes to sleep anymore.

I did reproduce the error using the greek locale; however, using the default english one worked. So, you can complete the installation in english and change the locale after first boot.

It seems my situation was identical to (but worse)
https://forum.artixlinux.org/index.php/topic,210.0.html

Tried to use default locale - did not work
Tried to use [world-testing] - did not work

But, i did some reading...
https://wiki.artixlinux.org/Main/Installation

Finally, i managed to go on with the installation

Used the graphical installer to get the base system (from live)
Then rebooted and installed from console
- virtualbox guest
- X
- lxqt
- lxdm

Right now i can boot in default lxqt desktop ;D
Will get back to you when i configure the system - if i get into trouble and when i find the time

Thanks
Spiros

The idia is to just pull in the package you need then go back, to the stable repro testing is testing it breaks things if you don't know what you are doing  :)

Oh, that's what testing is there for... Good to know!

And btw, i sure don't know what i'm doing ;D

The truth is, I have been playing with non-systemd distros lately.
I have already manged to break artix and void up until now - not there yet with devuan...

I have to say it's amazing these distros even exist in such a short time... There may be problems but that's expected from relatively new distros, imho

The nice thing about it is that this is the first time i got from console to full X, installing things manually! Up until now, my distros (suse in the old days, debian and finally manjaro) took care of it for me; i never had to worry or care how or why. So thumbs up for artix!

You can't really count Devian its using Debians outdated non systemd core from 2 realises back and will for a long time to come, Try MX  Linux uses upto date Debian 9.2 repros,  using Vinint that is the nearest you to up to date with Debian

We are getting off topic here, but Devuan Jessie is Debian Jessie w/o systemd.  Debian Jessie was stable till May-17
Devuan Ascii which is also very stable and complete is the same as Stretch.  So it is not 2 releases back.   Devuan ceres which is like one release ahead of buster also worked well.  The substitute of the modified udev, eudev, has been running for months w/o a hickup.  OpenRC seems to be functional as well.

On the other hand the MX/antix approach to being systemd-free is not as clean as Devuan's approach.  Different animals.  Devuan may have inherited some Debian conservativism but when they formally announced Devuan 1.0 it had been running for a couple of years.

Actually you are misquoting in favour of devuan  it became stable this year testing, unstable, are not the stable releases,
Antix has been going for years it was formally Mepis and a great newbie distro.

Is artix 100% systemd free no its not. Is obarun nearly no thanks to Arch needlessly using systemd deps and not announcing them in pkgbuilds so yes its a struggle, does Debian do the same who knows?

Don't get me wrong not putting devuan down but they in house fight to much and are dictatorial, that does not work.
Mx is 100% community that does work since about 2010 I think when Mepis ceased due to ill health and old age.
