Forum posts deleted

I posted in System about "Choppy local video" (that was the subject) yesterday. I went to #artix on freenode and got some help, installed a package `sudo pacman -S libva-intel-driver` and used --hwdec=auto with mpv to resolve the issue.

I thought my posts would remain on the forum, especially so I can refer back to them if I need to - besides the benefits of other people being able to see what issues a user is facing and how Artix can be improved.

Anyway, they were deleted. In my personal opinion it's really bad to delete posts that contain important technical information. The only reason I can think of that it was deleted is because maybe somebody thought it wasn't "important enough" for them. Well, I guess I've come to realize that this forum is less like a community, and more like a personal website.

so we won't rediscover the wheel*. First the archlinux wiki, then search the internet and  then try artixforum.

I sometimes ask myself, do we really want to have every nonsense in the forum because our users are not able to read the wiki?

Hi there crunchbonk, don't get hung up on this sort of thing. Different people use things in different ways, and alium is very knowledgeable and answers lots of questions most anyone would have no idea about. But being from Czech Republic there are going to be some cultural and linguistic differences, so just be tolerant of other customs. Czech is different from Russian but closer to that than English, and certainly in Russian a lot of the "polite" phrasing of English actually doesn't exist - the language itself can be very direct, and politeness may be expressed in different ways that do not exist in English, like cases, which will be lost in translation. I saw your post and tried a local video in VLC myself, but didn't have the problem you described so couldn't add anything. Really this is a means of communication, some forums have set rules, others are more freeform. You wouldn't expect every word you uttered to hang in the air for all eternity? It's ultimately a conversation.
It's worth noting though that you never know who "anonymous forum user" really is, I've personally seen me emailing a large multinational megacorp and their devs then discussing the issue I had raised on the relevant forum ;D So it pays to be a bit cautious, you could be talking to anyone!

Hi, yes i agree with you. This forum even feels strange to me. We cannot delete our own posts we created but the moderators and developers can. They can edit our posts and do anything in our accounts but we cannot. I once tried to delete my account on the forum and noticed that my deletion will be approved by the admin or moderator and only then it will be deleted. Very bad rules of the forum.
