retrieve threads on login

There's a lot I like about this forum setup but I would like to be able to return to threads I have started and possibly even threads I have posted in.  Unfortunately after I visit the right folder,  it's just a matter of chance which threads are shown and no way to select the ones I want.  "Recent Topics", I suppose.
