Manjaro's GRUB

God bless the folks over at Manjaro, the distro I came from before I came here. They've got a special version of GRUB! It is '2.03'  (at least what it says on the package), they've got F2FS root support - I am using it now & it works pretty great, I had to use the pkg.tar.xz binary because I was running into issues trying to get it to compile if I recall correctly.

Can we please get Manjaro's GRUB in our repos? F2FS support is amazing for SSDs.

Grub 2.03 isn't even released yet. They are still making it. The current grub releases can be found here: ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/grub/

Why Manjaro would stick a beta software in their supposedly stable repos... no idea. But for the meantime it will have to wait. 2.03 hasn't been released which means they are still working on it.

Hello,
you can find it in AUR, search for grub-f2fs

Re: Manjaro's GRUB

SGOrava that grub-f2fs doesn't work, I've already tried it numerous times.
I don't think Manjaro is using a beta release Chris, I think they patched GRUB themselves & just made it 2.03 from 2.02, maybe I'm wrong though, but its certainly nice to have... Manjaro has had this version of GRUB in their repo for at least a year, I used F2FS before I moved to Artix in august 2017

Maybe I'm wrong but I think this is the PKGBUILD? It says 2.03.2 on it though, which is different, so maybe this is the PKGBUILD from their beta repo, I got the GRUB .pkg.tar.xz 2.03 from their stable repos, and it has to have been there for at least over a year and maybe a half since I used to use F2FS when I was on Manjaro pre-Artix.

F2FS has huge advantages over traditional filesystems because it was made specifically for SSDs / flash memory, flash-friendly-filesystem is quite literally its name, I've reviewed a lot of testing and it seems F2FS is great for SSDs since most other filesystems were made for spinning disks, maybe we could at least add it as an optional package, or at the very least get it into one of the 'gremlin' repos, I have been using it for a month again now (used it before on Manjaro for quite a while) and I've had not a single problem, even with the Manjaro-compiled binary package. I know my way around PKGBUILDs a lot more now, I'd be happy to help contribute to Artix in any way I can - I'm good with game emulators, front-ends, and etc, not so great at writing patches yet though unfortunately - that's one thing I'm really trying to learn but am struggling because I have dyslexia to the point where I couldn't figure out left and right, clockwise & counter-clockwise until I was probably 16.

I don't think you tried very hard as their are instructions on how to patch it in the comments, that is all the  Manjaro package is, then renamed to look like a Manjaro package a bit like the alpha kernels released that break. the discrete graphics that don't work but installed the Arch way do work, and the number of non booting installs. grub that only plays with manjaro come on Manjaro took Arch and made it unstable for the masses Lol  ;D

I don't think we would accept any patches that are not from Arch-upstream unless
  • Critical bugfix (Memory leak, compile errors)
  • Removing any hard systemd dependency from the codebase/PKGBUILD

So I don't think we would add any more patches other than what Arch currently has.
now only the dinit guy in artix
