First try at Artix ends with a failure

Quite vexed.

I did not know how to partition and did some research. Hours later I realise my windows pc have something called immoveable file and trying to shrink it is like trying to wear a pair of pants two sizes smaller. I figure the ISO would come with tools to partition. Artix Linux wiki itself redirects me to Arch Linux wiki which I have been spending a lot more time on than a sane person would.
Still I stick with it. A bump in the road is inevitable, I know it is not going to be easy.
Then I try to verify the ISO which I downloaded. Did not achieve. Still that was always optional. Sure a malicious code could be there but hey, we can't have everything we want.
Then I make a bootable USB. Sites recommended Rufus which do not recognise my ISO download. Another stone on the path. Look for something else and Etcher worked.
On that pc I finally disable the SecureBoot option and perhaps something else with UEFI settings. The USB works and with live disk booting it looks great. LXQT does not disappoint with its desktop.
Well, other than the keypad and WiFi not functioning all seems to be moving in the right direction.
One problem at a time. So internet is needed for installation from what I read from all the research. I find a wired mouse after rummaging the store and lo and behold this works for now. Thank the heavens.
Now there is some guide on the installation process here however most leads me to Arch Linux wiki. I cannot make heads of tails of much but still I trudged on. I realise that my wifi is WPA2 and have now been stumped. The drivers appear to supported according to the investigation. However, some seems to lead to systemd and others require installation that I guess needs internet. I am hoping on some tool comes preinstalled with the ISO download however I think this journey ends for today.
Another week I shall find the courage to continue on what I hope is not a Sisyphean pursuit. Until then, farewell strangers.

Congratulations on making a start, there's a lot to initially take in if you are not familiar with Linux systems in general.
You could take some shortcuts to make life easier - try some other desktop iso variants to hopefully find one that works better, you need a working keyboard certainly. There are usually some options when you boot the iso relating to the keyboard, so check you made the right selections then.
The full community Artix iso's usually include a software app called "Gparted" that will do many partitioning, resizing and moving tasks in a quite easy manner, but as with any similar procedure, make a backup of any important data first if required, sufficient to restore the disk if it gets trashed by accident.
You could also try connecting to the internet via a USB wifi adapter or ethernet cable if you can find, buy or borrow one, just to get you started. Network devices with a chipset made by Atheros, Intel and Ralink are usually fairly well supported for example, Broadcom is often one to avoid. The device itself will usually be sold under a different brand name to the chipset it uses.

If you have no experience you have a big leap even into artix  which comes with an installer.  You could try a couple of things:   Get a cheap system to experiment on or use a virtual box.   You don’t want to start off with installing on you main machine if you have no understanding what will happen. Be cautious no matter which distro you start with

Welcome to Artix Minux!

Personally, as I am not a computer scientist, I download the XFCE iso.

It is not the sexiest out of the box, but then you can make something really beautiful with it.
Moreover, it is stable and not too "heavy".

Hello. I am also new to Artix but not to Linux. From what I understand from your post, you wold like to dual boot but resizing you partition is your first obstacle. It might be a problem because it is possible that Window's filesystem might have written to  scattered sectors of your harddisk so the first thig is to defragment Windows.

Gparted is a tool as explained above that you can use to create a Linux partition.

However, there is always the danger of borking your Windows installation so what I would suggest is another using a spare hard drive that you can point the installer to.

What I suggested is an option for you to consider. Ultimately, the decision is on you.

Best of luck.

I also chose Open-rc with XFCE. Nothing to be ashamed of for choosing the simplest.  :D

In addition to the forum, you'll find many tutorials on Youtube. Good luck, it'll work.

Oops I mean trackpad, the keypad works fine. I did find some LAN cables somewhere in storage and one of them worked. Partitioned worked too after some tinkering, mine's SSD so it is best not to defrag. I used Windows's disk management itself for partitioning.

So I partitioned and installed and some of it works okay. I am able to dual boot, have to go to BIOS setting wanna change boot order to Windows first (simply select F2 during startup).
Yeah I took the graphical installation image for LXQt and Dinit for init. Supposed to be the lightest and fastest. Wanted to try from base installation but that may be out of reach as of now.
Thanks for the advice peeps. :D
I may write a post sometime on starting as linux noob in Artix for complete newbies who are not IT savvy and post it in the forum, perhaps you guys can give feedback too . toddles :)
