Can't boot after system upgrade

After performing pacman -Syu, everything seemed fine, but then yay -Syu didn't work. It complained about a missing library IIRC. That was weird. So I rebooted but the kernel wouldn't load. I think that not even the initramfs was loading. Blue screen. I don't remember what the error was about but since it was so early in the booting process I didn't even bother. I just rolled back to a previous snapshot.

I should have written everything down to report it properly... I could update everything again and see if it happens again.
I just wanted to let you know and see if this happened to someone else too.
What could have gone wrong?

I'm using the lts kernel by the way.

Most likely the missing library for yay is libicuuc.so.76. See this thread: https://forum.artixlinux.org/index.php/topic,7805.0.html

The kernel (lts too) got updated which require a mkinitcpio run, which in turn requires bsdtar which is also missing libicuuc.so.76, and so the kernel won't load without the initial ramdisk generated by mkinitcpio.

For those who encountered this problem, boot into a live ISO and do a full system update before running mkinitcpio again.

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation!

It's the first time that Artix has broken for me in about 6 months. BTRFS really shined this time.

Currently icu 76.1-1 breaks qt5-webkit.

As I'm not in a hurry to update, I'll wait until everything is sorted out.

qt5-webkit is only available in AUR
