Dual boot with Arch: Artix login freezes

I’ve been trying to install a dual boot system with Artix and vanilla Arch.  I successfully installed both (Artix and then Arch) but after I installed Arch, Artix and Arch both appear in the grub menu, but when Artix is selected, it boots to a login screen, but then freezes.  NOTE: Arch boots fine and I am able to login, though at this point, I haven’t installed any desktop environment and won’t until I get Artix working.

Here’s what I did.

Note about my computer:  It does NOT have UEFI.  It has a 3TB HD, which exceeds the 2.2 TB limit for MBR, so I have to use GPT.  That’s the reason for sda1 being a small, unformatted partition with the BIOS_GRUB flag.

My Artix USB had the iso: artix-xfce-openrc-20200506-x86_64.iso

Set up partition table:
Code: [Select]
sda1 8MiB, no file system, no mount point, BIOS_grub flag
sda2 506MiB, ext4, mount point = /boot
sda3 75GiB, ext4, for Arch
sda4 75GiB, ext4, for Artix
sda5 8GiB, swap
sda6 2.7TiB, ext4, mount point = /storage

I SUCCESFULLY installed Artix on sda4.  During the installation, I mounted:
Code: [Select]
sda2 as /boot
sda3 as /arch
sda4 as /
sda5 as swap (and did swapon /dev/sda5)
sda6 as /storage.
When I rebooted, Artix worked fine.

I then SUCCESSFULLY installed Arch on sda3, with the same configuration as when I installed Artix, except making sda3 as / and sda4 as /artix.  This created a grub menu which has entries for both Arch and Artix and the system boots fine to Arch.  But as I said above, when I select the Artix option, it boots to a login screen.  At this point, the pointer is frozen and the cursor in the password box blinks for several seconds and then stops.  I can’t do anything except do a hard reboot or shutdown.  I tried a couple of times with the same result each time.

How can I “unfreeze” Artix?

can you share grub.cfg?

Thanks, alium.  grub.cfg below.
Note: I checked the fstab and verified that the UUID shown for the Arch installation is sda3 and the UUID shown for the Artix installation is sda4 as they should be.
