Kmix not showing level bars

I have installed the Plasma runit flavor and I have uninstalled PulseAudio and set Kmix to work with ALSA. Everything was fine but after a few reboots left-clicking on the Kmix volume icon on systray doesn't show any popup with the level bars. Right-clicking works but showing the whole panel on the desktop and I wouldn't want that. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app but no joy.
UPDATE: solved reinstalling the system.
