qjackctl VS Yoshimi

This should not be a VERSUS issue but I must be doing something wrong because if I start Yoshimi the synthesizer it launches perfectly and playing the keyboard produces sounds exactly as it should and as expected. But if i start qjckctl FIRST and then Yoshimi I cannot get any sound out of it and it doesn't even show up in the qjackctl connections window. I would use it with qsynth and Rosegarden but there's no point in going past this step until it works with jack.

This kind of issue is frequent with Slackware where (if I remember correctly) the solution is to compile apps in a certain sequence but the problem does not exist outside these two distros (so far as I know).

TIA
