startx freezes system completely

After updating my artix notebook, i got it to freeze every time i try to startx. Not a lot of clues from standard logs related, eg. xorgs logs show no error whatsoever, even loads correct drivers in the process. Nothing on syslog or dmesg either. Looking for some tips to which places to poke next and see if i can fix somethings up.

Have you tried with the linux-lts kernel ?

Code: [Select]
sudo pacman -Sy linux-lts linux-lts-headers

Then if you are using grub as your boot loader :
Code: [Select]
sudo update-grub

Yes, i'm already using lts kernel for a year or so. If i remember correctly, i  don't even have standard Linux installed!

I'm also gathering system information so i can share over here. As of the time i made the post i were in a hurry and couldn't get ssh to work  :P

I do have vulkan-radeon, and also double checked for xf86 video drivers. Still not sure where to look next :(.
I went into ssh  looking live into the kernel ring with dmesg, but no luck there either.

If you start on a live session, does it do it too?

And you can't see which updated package is causing these crashes?

Have to see if there is a specialist in the room...

I can have xorg working in a artix live iso, so its not really the hardware.
Also, i went through pacman logs, but can't really figure what can have a impact on this situation.

And, for the sake of updating, i went deep into the Xorg logs, poked thing around, and now im stuck at this error state:

I can have xorg working in a artix live iso, so its not really the hardware.
It's already reassuring.

Also, i went through pacman logs, but can't really figure what can have a impact on this situation.
Stupid question: is there an arch package causing the problem?

And, for the sake of updating, i went deep into the Xorg logs, poked thing around, and now im stuck at this error state:
I also see the errors, but do not have the skills to find the causes.

I don't think any arch package is causing any issue.
After some time digging, i still get xorg to hang my system, but no more errors in the logs, but once it loads libglamor, it wont log anything anymore. I'm not sure if i am at the right lead but i may be getting somewhere. :)

What xf86-video-* package do you have installed? I remember xf86-video-ati causing issues with GCN AMD GPUs like yours.

I'm using vide-ati  :o. Is there a better choice for this graphics card? I tried amdgpu out of curiosity once, and it didn't worked out!

I don't know if it can be useful to you, here are the amd modules loaded for me :
Code: [Select]
lsmod | grep amd
edac_mce_amd           53248  0
amdgpu               8548352  25
gpu_sched              49152  1 amdgpu
drm_ttm_helper         16384  1 amdgpu
ttm                    86016  2 amdgpu,drm_ttm_helper
gpio_amdpt             20480  0
pinctrl_amd            32768  0
gpio_generic           20480  1 gpio_amdpt

...xf86-video-amdgpu is what worked for me :P

You can still try xf86-video-modesetting, though.

Unfortunately no luck with either. I'll resort to a full system reinstall, as there is a chance that i messed something up with configs.

Thanks for all the help guys! I'll keep you guys updated on my progress.
