@gripped Thank you for the suggestion!

But no, I checked and networkmanager is not in use, and was not in the OpenRC services.

Just to be sure and certain, I just pacman-R'd the package networkmanager.

I use connman (and connman-gtk) instead of networkmanager.

But just now I tried disconnecting/reconnecting from connman, and nothing bad happened.

@gripped Spot on! You were absolutely right!!

I managed to have a scenario where the hostname would reliably change: it was when I used connman to switch from wlan0 to eth0, or the reverse.

So I applied your fix, did again the critical scenario, and now the hostname doesn't change anymore!!

Glad you've sorted it.

Befuddled as to to why both these programs think it a good idea to silently change a systems hostname ?
There must be a reason why they do ?
Unless it's just for the shits and giggles ?
