onscreen keyboard / emoji / character selector ?

Hello,
I was looking for a character / emoji selector.
I would rather build from source than to use something from AUR.

I suppose it wouldn't be too difficult to build a selector, but then how to query / create a database of unicode characters without knowing which codes are actually unicode characters?

If anyone has a recommendation, I would be open to receiving suggestions. Have a great day!

I use Emote which is also in the AUR.

You're welcome to build it manually, but in case you weren't aware many AUR packages including Emote are built from source. Inspect the PKGBUILD here.
