[SOLVED] Games that require steamplay (proton) does not launch.

Hello everyone, I have tried to look around the the internet to see if I can find a solution but nothing came up. To give some context, games would work nicely in my install ( I have openrc, use dwm as my window manager, and have a nvidia 1080). I was recently playing RE Village fine until an update on steam was requiring pipewire to be installed. Since I use pulseaudio, I decided to opt out of the beta branch of steam and then the problems started to occur. Now this game does not run and tried others that require proton. I launched steam through a terminal to see what errors it may have and here is what it gives me:

The line [ERROR] FATAL UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Could not find a part of the path "C:\users\steamuser\Local Settings\Application Data\Temp\wmpsupport.htm". may be the problem but I don't know how to go about it. Does anyone know what can be done about this? Thank you.

I'd not think that this missing wmpsupport.htm file, a webpage, which seems to be part of windows media player, is the culprit. Nevertheless, you could try to create the file.
When I run locate steamuser I see several different storage locations, one for each proton version I've installed. Judging from your logs, it looks like you've got 6.9, which I do not seem to be able to install. The latest version besides experimental steam lets me install is 6.4-3. You can try to simply create the file using touch, along the lines of the following (make sure the path uses the right proton version)

Another thing you can try is to make sure that the steam game overlay is disabled. You can find the appropriate setting under SteamSettingsIn-Game

Not sure what you can do besides just reinstalling steam, the logs look pretty normal altogether.

Thank you for the response. The 6.9 proton is a custom build from glorious eggroll. It is strange that on my steam install, I do not find a steamuser folder anywhere. I decided to remove steam as well delete any folders associated with it (excluding the games). It still didn't work with proton experimental until it came to my head to delete it and reinstall it and now it works. I am not sure why that would work but I will take it.
