Re: Neww Hardware Shopping Reply #15 – 05 April 2025, 00:05:22 The killer feature of the fanless boxes is they'll never have fans clogged by dust and malfunctioning, but I don't think this is worth the exorbitant premium and a CPU used for compiling will suffer more from heat than a fanned one. As for the HP Elitedesk 705 G4 that was mentioned above, while not a bad deal, it heats over 10 °C more than its Lenovo Thinkcentre M715q counterpart and the fan noise is almost insufferable. They both can be found for less than $100, but I would recommend the superior M715q implementation if you can get your hands on. This thing does WWZ in low-medium 1280x1024 at 50 fps in Vulkan and barely whispers. 1 Likes

From my experience, Thinkcentres and Optiplexes don't need it anyway, don't know how HP botched it in Elitedesks.I had my hands on quite a few of these mini-PCs over the past years, great performers for their size and electricity consumption. It started with Intel i5 ones and a beast 10th-gen i7, but all were sold after getting a taste of the Vega 11's power packed inside R5-2400GE. I mean, at €90-110 used (even cheaper in the US) and 45W TDP / 10W idle they blow away everything under the €350 mark.
