Plasma Wayland Broke after -Syu

A bunch of qt6 stuff updated and after I turned on my computer KDE Plasma Wayland would no longer loaded.

X11 did load.

I did
Code: [Select]
sudo downgrade qt6-translations qt6-base qt6-declarative shiboken6 pyside6 python-pyqt6 qt6-svg qt6-shadertools qt6-5compat qt6-charts qt6-connectivity qt6-imageformats qt6-positioning qt6-location qt6-multimedia-ffmpeg qt6-multimedia-gstreamer qt6-multimedia qt6-networkauth qt6-quicktimeline qt6-quick3d qt6-scxml qt6-sensors qt6-serialport qt6-speech qt6-tools qt6-virtualkeyboard qt6-wayland qt6-webchannel qt6-webengine qt6-websockets qt6-webview

And now Plasma Wayland loads again.

I haven't heard of the "downgrade" program, what package provides it?

Package plasma-wayland had not been moved the testing to the stable repository, but has now. This will probably fix the problem. If not then pls start a session from a terminal and provide the errors to be investigated.

I've seen this happen at least three times in the past few months... Each time, I had to log in using X11 or roll back the update because the Artix packagers forgot to update the KWin package when updating Plasma, Qt or other interconnected packages.

I've made a note to update and test a plasma-wayland system after moving qt6 and related to stable.

How does one access the terminal to roll back the changes if ctrl-alt-f1, etc is not responding?

I'm currently overseas with no access to a USB drive, etc to chroot and repair!

I just have a black screen and mouse pointer. X11 + KDE.

Thanks

I managed to borrow the use of a PC and USB stick to do a chroot and update. All working now.

Thinking of going back to using startx as a precaution as I seem unable to get out of a crashed X session.

that is not a bad idea in your situation and for a number of reason.

One thing though, I am not sure why and I haven't yet figured it out, but when I start window maker, my preferred desktop, out of  lxdm, I get a very different set up for it than when I run it out of startx.  xterm is completely messed up when I don't run it out of lxdm.

And darn is LXDM is not the slowest thing on earth.  It is amazing how much more responsive my machine is when I turn it off.  It takes forever to load.  It is just too much spaghetti dependency hell for me to waste time on... but it is a fact.

Also, starting in a counsel or terminal will not help you if the problem is between you and the GPU.

Some people might not be aware but mvp http://www.mrbrklyn/vids/2024_kroller.mp4 - that works in a terminal!
