[BUG Report] Plasma installation Image broken standard Theme [NOTABUG]

Hey @ all,

never tried the Live CD/Installation image.

Just did it.

And found a Bug, but this time ( :D) for everybody reproducible. I dont want to offense somebody, but i really dont like the delivered standard theme. This Problem occurs with every with KDE delivered Theme, and these you can install from KDE Store.

See Video: https://ufile.io/2a9ejfz0 (recorded with OBS on a KVM Machine) (because i dont found a better hoster, and that i dont have a account on ufile, this file is only available for 30 days).

Problem occurs on: artix-plasma-openrc-20220713-x86_64.iso (proberbly versions downwards too).

It would be nice if you described what the bug is ?

I just downloaded your video, skimmed it,  and from what I can see a non dark theme was selected. Which is clearly user error and an affront to eyes everywhere</joke>

But seriously I noticed the light theme still had some dark backgrounds. Was that the bug ? On a brand new install with an all new user home dir just move .config elsewhere (for backup just in case) and let KDE create its settings again from default.

It may well be a bug. But if you don't want the iso theming it's better to start with a blank slate from the base iso imho. Or as I said just clear the Artix theming.

On the base iso, this dont happens, because KDE there is vanilla.

The Bug is, that after you install the mentioned iso (artix-plasma-openrc-20220713-x86_64.iso) there is no way to use any other theme, because every theme show the same behavior like the video. So you are forced to use the artix theme.

Yes, the bug is, that after you applied the kde standard theme, it should look like the kde standard theme (like if you would install kde on a base iso install). or any other theme should be usable.

On the iso like mentioned, it is impossible to use any other theme. only that delivered with the plasma iso.

Edit: and in the video, you can see that i choose the dark theme. but it could be that i dont understand your joke right, because im not very good in english :-)

My apologies (Like I said I skimmed the video). I thought you had selected 'breeze' as parts went light.
I've just been playing with this on a recent Artix openrc plasma VM I already had and it is messed up. The global theme changes but not correctly.

On it's own just renaming .config did not help ? Still playing with it.

You seem to have a point. I deleted everything in a 'test' users home dir and let KDE start again. Started with breeze, the default.
Changing the theme to anything resulted in a messed up theme. Including back to Breeze.

I'm deleting this VM now but I will experiment with various iso's and will see what I can figure out?

The best way to install Artix is with the base iso or artix-bootstrap

But for people who do install the openrc-plasma iso (only one I can vouch for) the global theme should be changeable.

KDE/Plasma recently changed (again) the way they store their settings. As I'm not a Plasma user, I'd be grateful if somebody found a correct™ way of implementing the default artix-dark theme without breaking other themes. For information on how artix-dark is applied, see this wiki article.

(Pinning this until resolved and removing the [OpenRC] tag from the topic, as it's irrelevant)

Would it be feasible to make a poll or something and decide what the standard theme should be?

I am a friend of the other way: Leave all packages so upstream and standard as possible, and change only things wich should changed to make a package work for the distro, and leave the rest the user to decide (like on Arch).

So, to deliver the ISO with standard kde theme (breeze until today), maybe set it only to dark.

I give it a look. Especially:

To force uniformity across Qt and Gtk, some tricks had to be performed

Because standard kde breeze, delivers a uniform look for qt and gtk without breaking something. Maybe i find a difference if i compare these two themes together.

No Problem :-) i only added this, because i only tested OpenRC and it could be that this behaviour dont happen on other version because of maybe other maintainer or so.

P.S.:
For once, I'm writing this in German so that our new friend deepl doesn't have to bother.  :)

Artix USE="runit openrc slim openbox lxde gtk2 qt4 qt5 qt6 conky

Colour me bemused ? No idea what you wrote. I don't understand german. Is everyone expected to go and translate it ?
I'm sure I'm missing something ?

For the non german speakting guys:

Very cheeky, and hastily judged before originally looking at this problem, which has been confirmed by the developers of Artix. Would advise you to adjust your tone towards strangers you do not know.

Cause and effect or the problem, is understandable to everyone. Install Artix plasma iso, set the KDE theme back to default, and the problem you see in the video occurs. Which should not occur.

Try to reproduce this scenario exactly, then you will see it yourself.

Greetings.

The summary is, he installed "breeze-dark-gtk". Wich isnt delivered with the iso, and claims he dont have the problem with a cheecky tone.

Just tested the official plasma ISO. The "issue" as described is there but (big BUT) it's not actually a bug but rather the extremely complicated way Plasma applies its settings.

If you go to "Application Style" and select anything "light" (e.g. cleanlooks) the colors are corrected.

Final step in "Plasma Style", apply "breeze light" for the bottom panel and all is honky dory.

[EDIT] Real final step is to comment out the 3 lines in /etc/environment and logout to take effect. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to test our ISO and report back; it's much appreciated.

This topic with the dark themes in Plasma is an old things, see here & here. The first proposing a remedy was KDE-Neon, I collect only the information and forward to kde.org in Feb. 2019.

The results (at time) was to obtain homogeneous appearance in KDE with GtK (all) and Qt with breeze-dark both as $USER as well as $ROOT e.g. gparted, krusader, etc..

I modified (at time) also the gtk-3 of breeze-dark to get rounded scroll-bars and could provide all the necessary information.

In the meantime we know what to do, the only thing not yet reported are the simlinks  from /root to corresponding files in ~/.

I don't like the standard dark-theme of Artix, the sub-menu e.g. of kate expand in two columns, the mouse pointer is not usable on 4k-display and the color are ambiguous but I like others thing of these theme, e.g. the Kickoff with perpendicular favorites on the left, the possibility in some *.iso to let dolphin show the date in ISO-Format (if I can reproduce it) in conflict (I think with) LC_Collate=C.

All the modifications I done (at time) in the CLI or kate can be packed in a script (if still working or remain the same) and can be offered as artix-theme-chage. Naturally, you should communicate that this works only for complete themes.

Let's do the thing right, let be better than others and if the "coder" at KDE had "no time" for this till now... offer theme-change on GitHub as script.

Until Kubuntu 16.04 we had to start systemsettings & kdesudo systemsettings "only" to get uniform appearance in Gtk, Qt and as Admin & User, no need of qt5ct, editors, CLI and long search in the inet; today... we have "hard-coded" breeze-dark in Qt, that euphemisms for close-source, Qt5 appear not yet complete finished but Qt6 is already partial installed.
