nerds that do their job

Even back in my Gentoo days, nerds would find any excuse to insult the user and refuse to admit they made a mistake. Don't you dare report a bug, you insolent peasant!

A few weeks back, there was a kernel upgrade. Nvidia driver DKMS thing exited with error code 10 during the process. Reboot, video is kaput...

I figured I'd get back to it in a few days and see what was wrong.

I didn't get the chance.

All I did was run yay again, new updates, driver installed. All is working.

Somebody noticed their mistake and fixed it.

[GASP!!]

Artix is a good place to be.

Thank you for being decent people, unlike most other nerds.

I wish I still had enough of a brain left to participate/contribute in some way, but I'd bee more of a liability than a help.

Just wanted to say thanks for people with a thankless job who work for free yet do a better job than most of the people collecting $100k+/yr salaries...

I mentioned in another post that Artix was like the good ol' days.

I take that back.

It's better.

If Artix were a country/state/city, it would be the first one I've visited in decades where I can look around and say "I could live here."

I'm finally starting to try doing stuff with my OS again. Writing some lame python and PHP stuff. I'm still getting over the fear of everything blowing up for no reason. Artix is solid and it instills confidence.

The back seat ins't going to explode because I replaced a flat tire... Nice. A Linux distro that actually works? I never thought I'd see the day...

Oh, and somebody put yay in Universe. Nice. No more manual install.

Keep in mind that AUR is still user-provided and not officially supported, neither by Arch nor Artix. This means that Artix team should not be expected to solve issues that might arise with AUR packages. Whatever AUR package you install is your own responsibility, and support can only be expected from the maintainer of a specific package on its AUR page.

I understand this. I understand what the AUR is; the Alibaba of repos.

I use yay mostly for convenience, not for the AUR.

I also understand that useful, helpful people are found here.

While I do not expect/demand to find help here, it's probable that someone might be inclined.

I'm currently fooling with only one AUR package, ssh-chat. And, the problem I'm having seems to come from the ssh part of it, purely me not understanding what I'm doing wrong, not a bug report, etc. It would be akin to asking a question about ssh.

I'm sure someone here knows how ssh works... I'll beat my head against it until I give up before posting anything in that regard. I like to solve my own problems if I can, without bothering people who have better things to do than baby sit me and my brain damage.

I still suggest that ssh-chat fits with the artix philosophy and hope that someday it is included. I may still cross-post on arch forums... I have the tor part of it I wanted to do working, it's listening, but it's complaining about a key type mismatch that makes no sense. But, I digress...

I'm inclined to come here because :

1) Artix users are more helpful and pleasant to be around. It's human nature to drink from the pond that actually has water in it. I can't drink sand...

2) Artix is what I'm using, even if in an unsupported fashion. The blurry lines leave it possible for anyone to say "it doesn't belong here" no matter where I put it... Archbois will get mad that I'm using their repo on Artix. Artixbois might be irked that I'm using AUR. I can't win... It's both, so it's neither? [shrug] I refer to point #1 above; I'm likely to ask for help where it's actually available, regardless of other narratives...

3) I hope ssh-chat is part of Artix at some point. Which makes it wishfully future-relevant. :-p

Turns out the problem actually was a bug. Another derp with golang.

The developer of ssh-chat has an open chat server where you can talk to him directly. The most recent binary "Just WorksTM."

Code: [Select]
ssh ssh.chat
Poof, you're talking to the man in charge.

While blaming one's self is the most responsible method of solving a problem, I find, over the last 15+ years, that I am almost never actually the problem... This is frustrating, because I can fix stuff when it's my fault. When it's someone else, I have no control over the matter.
