How is everybody going??

Oh i came here to say thanks Artix because you were first Arch Linux based distro and when i installed you i haven't even had idea about how to download packages with pacman :D, as i came here from devuan which was apt-get

Now i am using Arch Linux that i managed to install and got lxqt/openbox, KDE plasma and fluxbox and the second one was overheating a bit third one is great and i am about to get and try MATE desktop...

How are you???? :D

I have been here from day one Artix just gets better and better it is a great team they know what real Linux users want and slowly evolve to the best choice for traditional users

Yeah, i completely agree with you :-)

I am using ARCH with fluxbox/kde plasma, however stop jobs happen sometimes, and because i want to be on gentoo someday, installing Artix OPenRC is going to be trivial for me... However i have got limited internet at the moment, therefore i can't download .iso like crazy ;D.

If you like KISS you will probably not like gentoo (at least it was so with me)

I don't know what i like as i am fresh in Linux, only 2 years been using it actively. However two users on some linux gaming forum adviced me to try it. Compiling everything for specific model of laptop sounds really nice, however installation process of Gentoo is like a huge mistery, i wonder if it's harder than arch or similar.

I use this laptop that i bought for games in mind like Diablo 3 and similar year (not the newest ones) and it came pre installed with windows 10, that day i had no idea i will be using Arch Linux few years later!!! Otherwise i would just have bought Linux Laptop!! That one has nvidia optimus gpu and it's hell lots of pain to configure it, bumblebee doesn't give me much improvement over intel 620 (it's 940mx) and even worse it gives me lower FPS in one game, Intel is 170 optirun is 80..
nvidia-xrun on arch linux gives me problems too... f
Ubuntu based distros have nvidia-prime but well it's ubuntu i have installed mint today but i can't imagine using this distribution for long period of time :/. I been trying to find some nice distro based on ubuntu that i can get nvidia prime running however i havent found anything specific.
If i had cash i would just buy one of the laptops from minifree.org and some decent AMD laptop for games but i have no idea where to find money for it. (Although i have spoken with person that is responsible for minifree.org and advised me to get Lenovo Thinkpad x60 cuz they're like piss cheap and setting libreboot on it it's apparently very easy so i might find some model online for cheap and try this in next few months :))

At least you have tried Gentoo and have got some opinion, i never have so not sure how it's like to be on Gentoo Environment. I have got live ISO from 2016 i think though
Today i started to think that it would be good for me to stop bother with such games like these windows games and mmorpgs and focus on reading books/learning programming instead. there are few languages that i would like know basics of for example lua, python, bash scirpting, even html css php sounds promising, currently i have got linuxfromscratch book downloaded and i started to read it

Gentoo is great but I have personally never found much advantage over Arch, Artix, or Slackware, The thing with these 3 you learn.  Ubuntu,Mint,the only thing you learn is how bloated and unstable they are Plus they choose just like Ms how you will run your computer the corporate way.
If you want to try the Gentoo experiance their is Calculate and a few others that is binary but if you choose to learn Gentoo they can be turned into a source based then migrate to Gentoo.

Ok nice..

Well i have got limited internet at the moment, it's like i top up and get free data, but it's very limited so i am not able to download .iso to try new distros, apart from nvidia optimus not being configured properly i am on Arch Linux KDE plasma using sweet theme... But updates are very bloated, i have updated few days ago and now 170mb update

Unfortunately that is KDE for you its weekly updates and you are on a rolling release so you are always up-to date. may you need a fixed release.

Im good.

I remember when archlinux-openrc was abandoned and artix was formed. Many congrats to the dev team and all involved for forking the foo.

You can optimize builds in Artix too:
Code: [Select]
/etc/makepkg.conf
#-- Compiler and Linker Flags
CPPFLAGS="-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2"
CFLAGS="-march=x86-64 -mtune=generic -O2 -pipe -fno-plt"
CXXFLAGS="-march=x86-64 -mtune=generic -O2 -pipe -fno-plt"
