I have poor German even after having an Austrian wife. Luckily with the help of the English slides I could make out most of his main points.

The knoppix desire to remove systemd stems from the problems that parallel starting causes real difficulties for a distribution that is/was often used from a slow medium because CDs have only a single read point. Knoppix prefers a linear start order.

Tight coupling of the systemd components seemed to be the main obstacle to the removal of systemd as init. Systemd is too complex for most purposes.

Interesting, but probably now dated as we have several mainstream distros that have done the work eg devuan, artix etc etc ....

distrowatch says knoppix is 'dormant', the knoppix page https://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=knoppix says it went through a few versions with init==systemd, but the last two versions use knoppix-autoconfig which i think is busybox-init.
