Clarification on what is 'political'

Recently I was banned for a few minutes.
I asked in IRC and was told the following, lightly edited.

<nous> n00b after some consideration, your ban will be lifted but I would *strongly* advise you to refrain from political discussions in Off-topic
<nous> we have repeatedly stated the forum is technical, consistent deviation won't be tolerated
<nous> you are welcome in the community, but keep it technical

I do not understand how my speech was different form others such that mine was considered political and resulted in a short ban.

Please advise me.
