gnome goes rougue?

https://techrights.org/n/2025/04/21/Microsoft_Has_Tainted_GNOME_Which_Has_Key_People_Acting_as_a_SL.shtml

The fist that slaps: Silencing critics, Strangling women, Sacking women

So what exactly goes on at GNOME these days, other than it running out of money (like the SLAPPing firm, which entertains foreigners to attack domestic sites because quality doesn't matter to broke firms)? Some leaders quit without a proper explanation [1, 2, 3], perhaps seeing skeletons in the closet (that they had not been properly informed about). Did she find out about the SLAPPs too? One common denominator (other than Microsoft salaries) is GNOME, which was led by an actual professional crank until she quit so suddenly months ago. Another leading person quit only days apart (they seem to also lack a Treasurer). As for us? We were receiving intimidation letters from a GNOME person, whose platform is run by the President of GNOME, Robert McQueen. Then he got another GNOME person to do more SLAPPing.

Anyone with a functioning brain moved on from GNOME when they switched their entire workflow and look with version 3. The problem isn't GNOME, as it can be avoided—the real issue is GTK. GNOME has the power to shape GTK however they want, which is problematic. GTK4 and GTK5 could potentially kill most of the smaller DEs simply by aligning themselves exclusively as a GNOME toolkit, a shift that is already taking place.

This is exactly when I moved from GNOME to XFCE (which still works great so far).
I used xfce4-terminal with Clearlooks-compact (blue) with openbox, thunar and a complete mix. It all worked nicely on my MSI Wind netbook (compact was really needed). When xfce4 started using GTK3 everything went wrong in terms of size/style etc etc.
I still use a hacked Clearlooks-compact with a gtk3 version patched in from someone better than I at GTK styles. It mostly works, but it's clear using awf-gtk2 & awf-gtk3 that I haven't really managed all the compaction in gtk3.
The GTK devs must be designers and have neglected to provide any kind of compatibility mechanisms or tools. Bah :(
