Piper, libratbagd and systemd

I can't use the mouse configuration utility 'piper' because it uses libratbag which uses systemd. I can work around this by configuring my mouse on my T60 running mint but this is obviously not ideal. Could libratbag-runit/openrc/dinit/s6 packages be added?
