[SOLVED] Problems with last update

So, just to advice that the last update, I downgraded it almost completely, is creating a lot of problems. In order:

1) if I install qt5-base qt5-location qt5-webengine qt5-webkit, the GUI (I use KDE) don't start
2) if I install harfbuzz and harfbuzz-icu Libreoffice, Kate, Chromium, etc... don't start
3) a previous upgrade of the poppler library, killed the functionality of libreoffice draw to open PDF file
4) libxml2, I don't remember what, but crashed some other applications, maybe some browsers normally used, but I don't remember and I'm a little bit bored, after a day of try and go, to upgrade and downgrade just to verify the effect on the normal use
5) samba connections no longer work and I'm no longer able to connect to the internal NAS, as I do from years; I haven't yet investigated why.

I think that, when releasing an upgrade in test, at least these application must be tested; I'm talking about libreoffice, samba, chrome, firefox, thunderbird, gimp; these applications are used practically from almost all the users. On the other side there is mpv/smplayer and other, but this is a personal choice so, no problem if it don't work, I manage it or replace it with VLC.

Thank you for your support!

These should all should definitely work and you should have the latest versions of everything if you do a pacman -Syu right now (and they should have synced at the time of this post honestly). If you don't, there is something wrong with your mirrors.

Keep in mind that libreoffice, chrome, firefox, thunderbird, and gimp are arch packages. Unfortunately, we can not control when Arch devs move new versions built on new SONAMEs into stable, but we follow them the best we can. Samba should work though. It is our package.

attenzione: smbclient: l'aggiornamento del pacchetto è stato ignorato (4.11.3-3 => 4.12.2-3)

I tried to update manually boost-libs (delete from /var/cache/pacman/pkg the previous version), sudo pacman -Syy and after sudo pacman -S boost-libs and the result is that libreoffice don't start, as before, with this message:

libreoffice
/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice.bin: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libboost_locale.so.1.72.0: undefined symbol: _ZNK6icu_678Calendar17getFirstDayOfWeekER10UErrorCode

I didn't try the other packages to avoid to crash all the system, as happened previously. also the qt5-* upgrade create problem and the GUI don't start.

Not being our packages may be an acceptable excuse, but either we provide the whole suite or we don't. I suggest we continue this conversation in #artix-dev and see if/how we can take over the productivity software most people rely on.

He wrote that not you, but dudemanguy.
All works, just check your mirrors. IgnorePks only broken your system.

I upgraded yesterday and no problem. Before you just updated too early, archlinux put rebuilded packages, but because we can put our rebuilded package first after archlinux, your system was broken.

There was a recent problem with /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist-arch (not /etc/pacman.d/mirrors that you have shown above) for some users as a few Arch mirrors have been retired, if you had one of those at the top of that list it would cause a problem.

Re: Problems with last update

Remove IgnorePkgs, sync mirrors with pacman - Syy, and update your system pacman - Syu

Re: Problems with last update

Alium: removed all from the IgnorePkgs , sudo pacman -Syy, sudo pacman -Syu and this is now the IgnorePkgs line:

IgnorePkg = boost-libs libxml2 qt5-base qt5-location qt5-webengine qt5-webkit

and I copy the icu lib version 65.x in /usr/lib to have online 67.x version too, otherwise libreoffice don't work or dolphin don't etc... The same behavior with libreoffice-fresh or libreoffice-still

Installing qt5-base qt5-location qt5-webengine qt5-webkit (I don't test every single library) the Plasma GUI don't start. Later, when the working time is finished, I'll try to test every single lib.

I'm sorry, I see that you do not understand where the problem is, so it is not worth trying to help you ..
I give it up :'(  :'(  :'(

Why do you have that stuff in IgnorePkg? Just get the latest version of everything like alium said.

Re: Problems with last update

your mirror is outdated, remove your stuff from IgnorePkg

because we upgrade to icu 67. All our and archlinux's packages are rebuild with icu 67 now. You  system will be pernament broken, and nobody can fix that,  if you will continue with this stupid idea of IgnorePkg  :-*

please change your mirror, your mirror is really outdated if not give you upgrade to icu 67. after make pacman -Syy and pacman -Syu.

that was my last word. :-)

I did a full update yesterday evening and I repeat this morning too, removing the IgnorePkgs from pacman.conf, with commands:
sudo pacman -Syy
sudo pacman -Syu

and the result is that, the GUI don't restart, libreoffice-still or fresh noway, Dolphin the same,  palemoon loose some icons...

Later this evening I'll retry, now I'm working and I cannot do test, but please, don't talk to me like if I were a stupid noob. I understand clearly what you wrote, I understand clearly what to do, I did it without asking help also in the past, this is not the first that there are this kind misalignment, but this time it create more problems than the previous.

Later I'll retry to update and I'll report you what will happen, but please, be more polite: my mirrors are not outdate, cause I update them regularly when you send the update.

Regards

Francesco

good, so put here some logs!

Quote
cat /var/log/pacman.log
will be pretty useful

Alium, the solution was really simple, just a question to relax the mind and to do a simple control: from which repository arrived the upgrade? and... to delete the cache (!!!) where the previously downloaded (wrong) program version was stored and was continuously installed despite the -Syy and -Syu. I think this is an operation to fix and to request immediately, to manage situation like this one: first -> delete the previous downloaded programs from the cache.

You are a package manager, surely more expert than me and, as I wrote in a previous post, I like a lot Artix and you are doing a great work, really! When Artix started I did a lot of test to verify the first installation iso and to explain how to install KDS+LUKS and surely I'll continue to use it. I more than 2 years I got less problem than with the previous version... Probably in these days I was too much stressed, not to solve a similar simple situation in a while...

The behavior that I don't understand is that, when there is a problem the position of the "technician" that answer, start always from the same point: I'm the expert and you are the noob. I don't know how are managed, normally the dialogues here, but if I wrote that my mirrorlist are updated, it mean that are updated and that the problem is in another direction. Usually to continue to cycle on the same point is usefulness. When you have a bug in a program that you are not able to find, surely the path that you are exploring is the wrong one so, forget it, remove all from the mind and restart later... in a new direction. Usually you find the solution in a while.

Ok, maybe that I'm too old and that now the programming strategies and maintenance are different; who can tell :-)

Anyway thanks' a LOT for your support and for your GREAT work!!!

Regards.

Francesco
