Downgrading nvidia-dkms to anything below 535 causes Xorg to not start.

Hello Artix Linux professionals, I have recently ran into a problem with my installation.
Playing the new game starfield requires Nvidia proprietary drivers 525 or 530 because 535 does not work.
The problem occurs when I try to downgrade from 535 to either 530 or 525. I have tried both 525 dkms and 530 dkms several times (always installing the proper versions of nvidia-utils lib32-nvidia-utils and nvidia-settings alongside), and I have even reinstalled grub after the previous attempts but still to no avail. Reinstalling 535 with dkms makes xorg start again.
I have attached the xorg and kernel logs from my latest attempt of 525-dkms.

from the xorg log:

[     8.641] (EE) NVIDIA: Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module. Please see the
[     8.641] (EE) NVIDIA:     system's kernel log for additional error messages and
[     8.641] (EE) NVIDIA:     consult the NVIDIA README for details.
[     8.641] (EE) No devices detected.

and the kernel log contains nothing relevant to nvidia or NVRM, which makes me suspect that the dkms isn't being installed properly.
