Budgei DE with s6 and startx

Has anyone gotten Budgie DE to work with the s6 init and using startx?

xfce worked with exec startxfce4 in my .xinitrc but Budgie shows a grey screen with oops. something went wrong.

gnome-settings-daemon uses systemd which is probably the issue.

So I'm just wondering if anyone knows how to get around that?

I installed the group from Arch Extra repo.  Can I just uninstall the gnome-settings-daemon parts of the DE?

To begin with, I would install DM and check if the environment starts normally. Then you need to find out which lines it uses to launch DE.

Why did you install gnome-settings-daemon from the Arch repo? It's in Artix and compiled without systemd.

Sorry. I accidentally deleted Budgie from "Budgie Group"

gnome-settings-daemon was a dependency of budgie-control-settings which is part of the Budgie Group I installed from Arch Extra repo.

I just drilled down in the Budgie Group packages and there are a bunch of packages/dependencies that require systemd (networkmanager, modemmanager, power, bluetooth etc).

It might be a case of too many things in Budgie relying on systemd to run it out of the box on Artix yet.

If I didn't install (or removed) all those systemd dependencies, would that be an option to get Budgie working?

[EDIT] This person used Budgie and Artix: https://www.reddit.com/r/UsabilityPorn/comments/pdx6lv/budgie_artix_linux/

Just saw the HOWTO guide and ALPH repo has replaced almost all the Arch Extra repo so will try ALPH repo tonight to see if Budgie is in there.

So I made the decision to stick with xfce and install a theme to my liking.

I used xfce for the longest time and really liked it but that was years ago. When I got back on linux I used Arch and Budgie DE for a lightweight but modern looking DE which xfce out-of-the-box wasn't.

I didn't realize/remember xfce had all these themes out there! I found a bunch I like so will install one of them.
