all i did was update lib32-v4l-utils separately and then update the system. It fixed the error for me.

True enough. I was suggesting more of a workaround for the time being.

And I really appreciate it, ultimately it's also good to just keep my system clean and free of unneeded packages. As I mentioned in my prior post, I'll be uninstalling lib-v4l-utils if a fix doesn't come down from upstream.

Yeah, I tried that also and like @cat herders of linux , that didn't work for me either. I believe this to be a problem in the way the package maintainer implemented this update, as it never complained about needing to overwrite files owned by v4l-utils prior ot this. Either the package is no longer needed for 32 bit systems and v4l-utils works for both (unlikely), or in other unix like environments, it is fine to overwrite these files? (also unlikely).

Ultimately this isn't a system breaking change (thank goodness), but given that v4l-utils is used so ubiquitously amongst such common programs as firefox, ffmpeg, and mpv, I'd like to have the lib32 bit version in the situation I do need to utilize an appilcation that relies on the 32 bit binary. This is becoming a less common occurance, and ultimately I just installed it blindly because I was following a guide for steam.

As @gripped pointed out, there are no programs that rely on this package on my system, so I'll stick to my plan. Wait a couple days, uninstall it, see if anything breaks. I'll also reach out to [email protected] (package maintainer shown on pacman -Qi lib-v4l-utils), in a couple days as well should this issue not get resolved of its own accord.

Thanks all for the suggestions and help though! It is always greatly appreciated. I'll keep you posted here.

EDIT: Okay, after posting this, I immediately ran pacman -Syu for my usual update, saw that udev got an update and thought...maybe. So after updating, rebooting, I removed the lib32-v4l-utils package from my IgnorePkg list in my pacman.conf and reran -Syu. No issues, no complaints, just worked as expected.

It looks like this was with the udev package! Anywho, don't know why, what or how, just gonna mark this as solved. Again, thanks to all for chiming in with suggestions and thoughts. I learned a bit and got to engage with this awesome community over troubleshooting this fantastic distro. Peace! ☮️
