Since sxiv is no longer maintained, you may want to consider nsxiv instead.

I don't know why an image viewer needs active development, but I've gone ahead and added nsxiv too

bug fixing for once, then is being able to make use of new features from the underliying libraries, you can also check the commits pushed to nsxiv since the sxiv v26 release https://codeberg.org/nsxiv/nsxiv/commits/branch/master and see if you consider those useful or not, but since around 4 or so years ago everyone was using sxiv like it was st or dwm, ie: building it from source with patches, many of the most common patches that everyone was applying to their builds were made a part of nsxiv.
