[SOLVED} boot stops at black screen

Hello,
After running pacman -Syu on Feb 21, my computer would not reboot.  After the Artix splash, it said "login:", then went to a black screen.  This helped once before, but not this time.  I decided to embrace the opportunity of a clean slate and installed artix-xfce-runit-20230814-x86_64.iso.  That booted and I ran pacman -Syyu, which starts with a series of questions like ":: Replace karchive with world/karchive5? [Y/n]".  I answered "y" to all ("n" stops the update)  After that, boot failed in the same way.  Another reinstall; now I'm afraid to update!   Things like keepassxc and libreoffice don't work presumably because libraries are not up to date.

Thanks for any suggestions. The system inxi is below.    I'll be glad to provide more information if I can.  I didn't think to save the logs from the failed boot, but if necessary I could go through the process a third time and save them. :(

Yes, it had the lts kernel at the time of the update.

I changed to lts kernel months ago.  I update once a week so it was nearly the latest version.  I don't remember if the Feb. 21 update contained a new kernel version.

Tintin, thanks for the suggestion.    Once I catch up from all the down time, I'll try an older lts kernel and run pacman -Syu.  If the boot fails again, I'll retrieve the logs before reinstalling, as I should have done the first time.

Just fyi, I did pacman -Syyu on the new install and it boots normally.  Kernel is now   6.7.6-artix1-1
